The brand spankin new riddle thread

ok, ill go first.

What is greater than God? Worse then the devil? You can launch it up in th air and it wont come down, and if you eat it, you'll die?

just as a little added incentive, 90% of first graders get this, and only 20% of university students can figure it out.

Sion 11-10-2003 08:19 AM

nothing

I never was, am always to be,
No one ever saw me, nor ever will
And yet I am the confidence of all
To live and breathe on this terrestrial ball.

junglistic 11-10-2003 09:29 AM

ok, ive got another one.

Your outside of a room, there are 3 light switches 8 feet away from a door. Only one light switch turns on the light inside the room, the other 2 do nothing. You must figure out exactly what light switch turns on the light inside the room. You can only open the door once, and once you open it and go in, you cant get out. You cant prop the door open, it opens and closes at the speed of light.

thejoker130 11-10-2003 09:34 AM

Punch a hole in the door?

If right is my turn:

Something that men do standing up, women do sitting down, and dogs do on 3 legs.

anyone else. this one takes some problem solving skills

MooseMan3000 11-10-2003 10:29 AM

I bet the light switches are inside the room.

What kind of retarded builder would put them outside?

If that's the answer, that riddle is useless =P

That's pretty easy. Open the door to check the light but don't go in until you find the right switch.

here's the solution..

you turn on the first 2 light switches... wait 10 minutes.. turn the 2nd one off.. go in the room... if its on, its the first one, touch the bulb, if its hot, its the 2nd one, if its cold, its the 3rd one.

:)

Shake hands.

I guess we are not doing this like most of the game threads around here, ie the one who gets the right answer gets to ask the next question. Im still waiting for someone guess mine.

I never was, am always to be,

Tomorrow

New Riddle:

We are very little creatures; all of us have different features. One of us in glass is set; one of us you'll find in jet. Another you may see in tin, and a fourth is boxed within. If the fifth you should pursue, it can never fly from you.

Elements? Probably not right, i won't say a new riddle.

Indeed, you are correct in that you were not correct, so to speak... :p

In laymen's terms, TerresqueU was not correct. Anyone else?

torgone 11-11-2003 12:30 PM

It's the five vowels: a, e, i, o, u.

Here's an oldie but a (fairly)goodie:

Three people check into a hotel. They pay $30 to the manager and go to their room. The manager finds out that the room rate is $25 and gives $5 to the bellboy to return. On the way to the room the bellboy reasons that $5 would be difficult to share among three people so he pockets $2 and gives $1 to each person. Now each person paid $10 and got back $1. So they paid $9 each, totalling $27. The bellboy has $2, totalling $29. Where is the remaining dollar?

No where, the equation is flawed. I think...

New riddle: You are in a room with 4 walls 100000000 ft high each. There are no doors and one window. You have a compass and the window is to the south. What kind of bear is it?

25 dollars for the hotel
1 dollar for each of the people (3)
2 dollars for the bellboy

what remaining dollar??

Turn on all switches. What's wrong with that, I'm not breaking any rules.

Here's an easy one:
I can put it in a bucket. I can see it. When I put it in the bucket, it makes the bucket lighter.

Well, one thing this thread shows is that some people just do not understand riddles as can be seen from some of the really lame answers.... and I do not mean bad guesses, but answers like "I think the riddle is wrong".

The answer to the hotel riddle is not flawed, but rather the mathematics are. 3 guys pay $9 each = $27 + $2 to bellhop = $29... seemingly missing $1 from, original $30. But the problem lies in the way you look at it. The guys paid $27 for a $25 room, $27 MINUS $2 for bellhop = $25. No missing money.

And what the hell does this mean?

What kind of bear is what? What kind of bear is the window? A bear in the room? A bear outside the window?

I am going to guess polar bear. Probably has something to do with if the window is to the south then the room MUST (incorrect assumption) be at the north pole. Very badly worded riddle.

Sphinx riddle:
What walks on 4 legs in the morning, 2 legs in the afternoon, and 3 legs in the evening?

Man. He crawls as a baby, walks upright as an adult, and walks with a cane when he's elderly.
