bernadette 10-07-2003 09:21 PM

taping shipping boxes shut.

yup. i'm clever.

Macheath 10-07-2003 10:47 PM

I can go one better bernadette. Last week I went down under the house and used duct tape to tape some leaking heating ducts back together.

Great Scott 10-08-2003 12:22 AM

Used it for anything from makeshift handcuffs to sealant, to keeping suitcases shut, to car repair, the list goes on and on....

Fly 10-08-2003 12:25 AM

no one said the wife's mouth yet?....j/k

i sometimes use it on my drum skins when i'm too lazy or cheap to go buy a new one.

Well when I was about 8 or 10 I fashioned a tomahawk out of a cool stick and an old broken paint scraper. I had tied it tight with string and such and it actually held and worked and chopped shit. When it started gettin loose I put duct tape on it to hold it together. I remember I used to spend lots a my boredome time scraping the scraper on the concrete to sharpen it. Do one side, then flip it and do the other. It got pretty sharp. My friend broke it and if I could of I would've killed him with it's remains. Sometimes the folks would worry since I was fashioning weapons all the time...I guess normal kids don't really do that but I wasn't going off to kill people with them I was an indian, and a ninja, and a viking, and a pirate, and an arabian knight, but above all those things I was a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle.

Asta!!

A couple of uses while scuba diving:

I use it regularly to "shrink" the ankles in my drysuit boots. Just fold over the top of the vulcanized rubber boots and wrap a couple of layers of duct tape around. Makes it fit better and keeps air from migrating into the feet (it's a bad thing when your feet get floaty and you can't purge the air).

Maskeshift fin straps.

Marking tanks to show what mix of gas is in them.

Also used to secure fin straps so they don't become entanglement hazards.

I used duct tape to temporarily fix a drain pipe about 3 years ago.

Now that I think of it, its still holding it together. Must get that fixed properly one day.

platypus 10-08-2003 05:55 AM

Condom.....still hurts. :D

shalafi 10-08-2003 11:34 AM

Batman976 10-08-2003 02:51 PM

I duct taped my arm back onto my body after a horrible incident with a butter knife.

Moreland 10-08-2003 02:56 PM

Baseball

Used to play this when I was on Tech Team, all the gaffa after a show rolled up to create a massive ball and then use a broom or pole as a stick. Great fun :)

bandaid, fixed an oilpan in a '70 ford with duct tape..

wry1 10-08-2003 10:08 PM

Who do you think taught MacGuyver all those nifty uses for the stuff, huh?

Duct Tape has successfully reattached a muffler to a Mercury Mystique, has provided much-needed weatherstripping for a friend's home, is a useful babysitting tool and is always cheaper than giving your girlfriend $$ for a bikini wax.

.....and that's just a few uses for this marvel of modern technology! Why, just look what it did to that tin can, and it still slices neatly through that tomato (oh wait, wrong product...)

ForgottenKnight 10-08-2003 10:32 PM

Duck tape...great stuff...and the handyman's secret weapon...

I used it to fix the glove box in my car during High School. I would have used it to keep the muffler on after I was rear ended, but I was out of duck tape...good thing I had that piece of wire though...

hawkeye 10-09-2003 12:51 AM

Among other things, I used it to position my monitor cable so that my screen shows more colors than just red.

Snoogans 10-09-2003 01:55 AM

I once taped my little brother to a chair in the basement and then left, it was so damn funny.

He wasn't that happy about it though...

Miekle 10-09-2003 07:12 PM

I kinda water proofed my guitar with it... heh oh and here are some things others have done hehe that I am about to try on my brother.

I made a duct tape wallet once. It got too warm in my pocket and got sticky. Then I determined it broken. I broke duct tape.

grumpyolddude 10-09-2003 09:36 PM

Right now, it'sholding up some plastic, covering up where my dog tried to go through my bow window to get at a squirrel that had the audacity to wander across my front yard. Stoopid ass dog.

Asta!!

Fremen 10-10-2003 01:39 AM

I use it to remove doghair from my clothes when I can't find the pet-hair roller thingamabob.

mvassek 10-10-2003 10:41 PM

There are only 2 items you need to fix anything in the world.

1. Duct Tape
2. WD-40

If it moves and isn't supposed to tape if it doesn't move and is supposed to WD-40 it.

Isn't it amazing that all lifes repair jobs can be handled with 2 items yet we still spend so much money on shiny tools.

bobw 10-20-2003 07:01 PM

I would consider adding a Vice Grip to your list....

gag

oberon 10-21-2003 10:39 PM

I use duct tape to duct tape my crappy desk lamp to my crappy plastic bookshelf. :)

Lunchbox7 10-23-2003 01:11 PM

Put tape around half a tennis ball and it allowed us to play cricket at school with a ball that actually swings in the air. Awsome

Lunchbox7 10-23-2003 01:14 PM

I just remember this one time wher my mate crashed his car in the bush. Both of us were students so had no money to get it towed or fixed. So we fixed it up enough to drive home with duct tape, a cigerette lighter, and a cheap swiss army knife. We had no other tools. I was rather pleased with out effort. Im sure Macgyver would of been impressed.

matt_mll 10-23-2003 05:29 PM

Haloween costume. Basically I was duct tape mummy. Not very creative, but what the hell it was fun and everyone wanted to take a picture next to me. used 6 roles of tape.

skaterpunk 10-23-2003 05:48 PM
