'Lost World' Found in Frozen Antarctica
Two teams of researchers, working separately thousands of miles from each other but both defeating incredible odds, have made stunning finds in frozen Antarctica--so stunning that the National Science Foundation calls their discoveries evidence of a lost world. The researchers found what they believe to be the fossilized remains of two species of dinosaurs previously unknown to science. One is a 70-million-year old quick-moving meat-eater found on the bottom of an Antarctic sea, while and the other is a 200-million-year-old giant plant-eater that was found on the top of a mountain, reports Reuters. The lost world in which these two dinosaurs lived was very different from the Antarctica we know now. Their Antarctica was not frigid and frozen. Their Antarctica was warm and wet. See photos of the dinosaur fossils found in Antarctica. The 70-million-year-old carnivore was small for a dinosaur at just 6 to 8 feet tall. Scientists believe it is an entirely new species of carnivorous dinosaur that is related to the enormous meat-eating tyrannosaurs and the equally voracious, but smaller and swifter, velociraptors. Think "Jurassic Park." Now scream in terror! Found on James Ross Island off the coast of the Antarctic Peninsula by a team led by Judd Case from St. Mary's College of California, it likely floated out to sea after it died and then sank to the bottom of the Weddell Sea. Reuters explains that its bones and teeth show that it was a two-legged animal that survived in the Antarctic long after other predators took over elsewhere on the globe. "One of the surprising things is that animals with these more primitive characteristics generally haven't survived as long elsewhere as they have in Antarctica," Case told Reuters. Look what else scientists recently found in Antarctica--something that was totally surprising. The 200-million-year-old herbivore, a primitive sauropod that had a long neck and four legs, was found by a team led by William Hummer from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois on the 13,000-foot high Mt. Kirkpatrick near the Beardmore Glacier. When this dino lived, the area was a soft riverbed. The team found dinosaur bones, specifically part of a huge pelvis and ilium. "This site is so far removed geographically from any site near its age, it's clearly a new dinosaur to Antarctica," Hammer told Reuters. This dinosaur was probably about 30 feet long, but was part of a lineage that went on to produce animals as large as 100 feet long. A creature unlike any other was recently dug up in Chile. Click to find out the astounding facts! Both excavations were supported by the National Science Foundation, an independent federal agency that supports fundamental research and education across all fields of science and engineering. Did birds evolve from dinosaurs? Scientists have found fossilized remains of a dinosaur with four feathered wings, a find that strengthens that theory. |

Ways to Identify Common Minerals Email this Story Mar 23, 2:39 PM (ET) By The Associated Press Many common minerals can be identified by studying features such as fracture, cleavage, crystal system, habit, hardness, color and streak. _Minerals can break in different ways. If a mineral breaks in an irregular way, leaving rough surfaces, it possesses fracture. _If a mineral breaks along well-defined planes of weakness, it possesses cleavage. _Most minerals form crystals which can be categorized in crystal systems according to their symmetry and number of faces. _A mineral's habit is the typical form taken by an aggregate of its crystals. _The relative hardness of a mineral may be assessed by testing its resistance to scratching. This property is typically measured using Moh's Scale, which increases in hardness from 1 (talc) to 10 (diamond). _Some minerals have a range of colors so it is not a dependable guide to identification. _Streak is the color the powdered mineral makes when rubbed across an unglazed tile. |

No, as far as I know he did not get up and running. We did however get in a bit of a fight. I feel the same way you do. What a waste of time. He clearly hasn't taken the time to read the manuals or he would have know about the certs among other things. He was pretty disgusted with the support and started getting on me about it. He knew we were scheduled to talk to you this morning and on a tight schedule. I can't believe he was so ill-prepared. Oh well, such is life. He was supposed to send me the log files and let me know if he needed more help. He hasn't as of yet. I'll let you know if he calls back.

Take it from a big guy, it gets much harder as you get older to keep the "big muscles" shapely. You will be able to maintain tone muscles a lot easier than big muscles.

BRIE EN CROUTE
6 ounces Brie, chilled 1 large egg a thawed 17 1/4-ounce package frozen puff pastry sheets (2 sheets) For dressing 3 tablespoons white-wine vinegar 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard 1 teaspoon chutney (preferably tomato) 6 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil 2 vine-ripened tomatoes 4 cups mesclun (mixed baby greens; about 4 ounces) Discard rind from Brie and cut into 1/4-inch dice. Freeze Brie cubes, covered, until hard, at least 1 hour, and up to 3 days. In a bowl lightly beat egg. With a 3 1/2-inch round cutter cut out 4 rounds from 1 pastry sheet and fit rounds into four 1/2-cup muffin cups. Fill cups with frozen Brie cubes. With a 2 1/2-inch round cutter cut out 4 rounds from remaining pastry sheet. Brush 1 side of each round with egg and put 1 round, egg side down, onto each filled cup. With a sharp small knife make steam vents in pastry tops. Chill pastries 30 minutes. Make dressing while pastries are chilling: In a small bowl whisk together vinegar, mustard, and chutney and add oil in a stream, whisking until emulsified. Season dressing with salt and pepper. Dressing may be made 1 day ahead and chilled, covered. Quarter tomatoes and cut out seed sections. Cut quarters into thin strips. Preheat oven to 425° F. Bake pastries in middle of oven until deep golden, about 25 minutes. Cool Brie en croûte in cups on a rack 5 minutes and lift from cups, keeping upright. Whisk dressing to combine and in a bowl toss together mesclun, tomatoes, enough dressing to coat, and salt and pepper to taste. Serve Brie en croûte warm with salad. Serves 4. |
