Women can't park!!

It's official, as this pic proves!
I found this pic on a website:

I'm gonna get slated by the women now... :D

In a world where parking spaces and boarding planks are becoming increasingly rare, this is the perfect solution!

Marius1 09-10-2003 03:01 AM

Its inbetween the lines isn't it? Its fine.

There are genuine physical reasons why women aren't very good at parking. They are safer drivers though. Which is better?

cchris 09-10-2003 05:15 AM

I reckon she's done a great job not ending up in the drink.

I'd like to hear about those physical reasons. I've never heard that before!

I'll admit to being a shitty parker.

Its to do with brain activity.
By monitoring the electro chemical pathways in the brain scientists dicovered that women use all of their brain at the same time. As a result they are better at mutli tasking and in many other ways are mental superior to men.

Men on the other hand concentrate activity in the one half. Just hapens to be the half that deals with abstract concepts and spacial awareness. This means the men are better able to visualise inside their head the size, shape of the car, the parking space, the distances, relative postions etc. This is combined with visual signals. Women tend to depend wholly on the visual signals and no inner map. Its this that makes parking for them a harder (but still acheivable) task to accomplish.

Its this abstract and spacial thing that leads more men than women to become engineers. Not that women can't be great engineers, but it does affect the statistic trend.

Remember this is generalised. Some women with high levels of male hormones have chemical activity more like mens and vice versa.

Also some women with large chests have difficult in turning around fully to see where they are reversing. Sounds silly I know.

Averett 09-10-2003 05:45 AM

Thats pretty interesting, Marius. Never would have thought of that.

And the big chest thing... True. Not that I have a problem with that, but women I know do!

I know there are exceptions to every rule; but as a woman I am an excellent "parker." My ex use to get out of the car and let me parallel park because he just couldn't do it. Even with a big "family" van, I can whip right in. I think I have this skill from growing up in a large city. I had to parallel park or never park.

Nessesity is the mother of parallel parking.
Doesn't have the same ring ;) :D

Well with all things practice makes perfect.
People quite often though only tend to practice on their strengths not their weaknesses. I know who a girl who absolutely refuses to reverse into a space. If she practiced it enough though I'm sure she'd nail it. As she won't practice she'll never be able to do it.
In karate I was taught to practice on your weaknesses more than your strength. That way you achieve balance, expand your options and make your actions less predictable.

Wow! I meant this as a bit of a nonsense, have a laugh at women thread, but there's some really interesting stuff being said - Marius - thanks!

Minx 09-10-2003 07:40 AM

Maybe her hubby was driving at the time! :D

God of Thunder 09-10-2003 08:28 AM

I love the way she is just standing there in the picture looking like nothing happened.

"Hey look at what I just did, I'm a dumbass. Hee Hee Hee."

Midlandmadman 09-10-2003 09:10 AM

I am a guy and I can't park very good if my wife is in the car.... but I am great when she isn't. go figure.

tinfoil 09-10-2003 09:16 AM

My wife can park perfectly well but damnit, she can't move the seat back when she is done driving. I always hit my knee on the steering column.

Maybe I should stop putting the seat down on the toilet.

ssander9 09-10-2003 09:42 AM

Can't drive too well either.

krwlz 09-10-2003 11:43 AM

And the fact that us guys arent as safe drivers, (drive too fast, reckless, etc) and dont crash is a testemant to the truth of Marius's statement...

ForgottenKnight 09-10-2003 09:34 PM

What I don't get is that while we see all these pictures of stupid things women drivers have done...why is it that the insurance companies will lower their rates at 21, and not lower a guy's rates until 24? WTF? Some of the worst drivers I know are women (No offense to those women that are good drivers). And some of the best drivers I know are men. Insurance companies suck.

...and yes, I'm just a bit bitter about my rates not going down this year when turning 21...

Stiltzkin 09-10-2003 11:07 PM

Ah. I have a friend who's been driving since he was 9, he can drive huge 18-wheelers, cars, trucks, everything. Female drivers? I honestly don't know any gals that drive. Most gals I know just take the bus. Well, I have one female friend that drives, but I've never observed her driving skills. Eh. Sorry I don't really have anything good to contribute. Very interesting thread, though. Almost seems like it doesn't belong in this board.
