What is the first thing you ever remember buying by yourself (no help from adults)
 

For me it was chewing gum.

Some G.I. Joes. and a pint of whiskey,

'81 Honda XR80, spent a summer working on the neighbors dairy farm saving money for it. the following summer I spent every day on that bike.........ah, those were the days.

You guys buy things by yourself? Where do you get the money?

They paid me 11 cents an hour to make those Nike's back when I was 7 years old. We were going to "change the world", they told us. We were going to be a part of the Air Jordan revolution, one pair of shoes at a time.

I think it was the MASK Boulder Hill playset.

money earned by me - a black gucci watch.

money received from parents - probably junk food or lollies.

money stolen - cigarettes and porn

I was about 6 or 7 and I bought the cheesiest ring for my mother.It was a green "stone" about the size of a marble set in a self sizing "gold" band. She claimed it was beautiful but i don't remember her ever wearing it, hmmmmm.......

It might be a good time to ask her about the ring neddy65.

She might still have it lol

I remember being able to walk the corner store to buy candy when I was probably five or six.

That brings up another thing...Today you would never let a 5 year old walk to the store by themselves if you live in a big city. World has changed alot since I was 5 or 6.

That is a good feeling when you can finally buy something for yourself without having to beg someone else for money. That was probably the first time I felt like I was getting somewhere in this world.
On the other hand...after working most of my life I would gladly go back to the first time I asked mom for money to buy something.
It does seem to me now thinking about it, that was the first time I noticed how money gave me a feeling of power.

Candy at the local convenience store - but the first item of substance was an Elvis album at the record store. I can still remember the pride of doing so - and telling my best friend Jeff I'd paid for it myself.

i think it was Michael Jackson's Dangerous album on Tape!! can't believe it! who uses tapes anymore! still have it on tape but also now have a glorious digital version! yay!

Bought a bag of lollies from the lolly shop down the road. Wouldnt have a clue what lollies though.

I used to walk to the local store and buy Creepy and Mad Magazine. Man I miss those Creepy magazines.

when I was about 8, I went out and bought myself a case that holds hot-wheels..... got it home and opened it up and was PISSED because the hot wheels on the wrapper were not inside...

Man I had a great collection of original Hot Wheels cars in a handmade collectors case. I had about 25 cars in there all from the 60's. My little brother found them and I got in a fight with him over them. Dad mage me give him the cars and I never saw them again.
Cobalt_60, I miss that mag, too. It was way cool when I was a kid.

The first thing I remember buying was an "original jams" wallet. After I bought it, I didn't have any money to put in it. :(
