Following is advance for use after 5 p.m. EDT. (Undated-AP) -- A study says that losing weight could prevent one of every six U-S cancer deaths. That would save more than 90-thousand lives a year. Researchers looked at 16 years of data on 900-thousand people who were cancer-free when the study began in 1982. They conclude weight may account for 14 percent of all cancer deaths in men and 20 percent in women. The study supports earlier links to some cancers. But it was so in-depth that it could spot eight other types. Outside experts say the amount of data is so large, and the study is so well-done, that it just about proves a link between fat and cancer. The lead researcher is with the American Cancer Society. The study is in the New England Journal of Medicine. glad i'm not weight:p |
