Actual CD's are just all placed in a rack. I'll find them soon enough when I want to play them.
Music on the computer is sorted: genre-->artist-->year - album-->track - title

By what's most listened to (mine is a stack one on top of the other CDs) and in my CD case it's alphabetical, but it always ends up getting messed up.

Computer wise, I go with artist myself. I have one folder for music with a bunch of different artists folders in there. For the ones I only have onesong of, they go in the Misc. folder. ACtualy CDs, radom, but I rarely use those anymore anyway. Pretty simple.

Alphabetical, according to group name or last name of artist. This is why you find Ben Folds Five in the "B's" and Ben Folds in the "F's".
Once you get to the group of artist, CD's are in chronological order, by release date. Christ, I need to get a hobby.

The 60 CD's of classical music that I recived over the course of two years by mail came with their own racks. All the cd's are themed, numbered, and come with a booklet(built into the cover) that explains the songs. I also got two little binders with all sorts of musical information in them.

alphabetically of course. and then when i have more than one CD of a certain artist or group, i order them in the order they were released. anal? yes, but if you had over 400 CD's you would need a system to find certain CD's too.

Alphabetically by artist, then by release date, with a special section set aside for comedy/jazz/christmas/oddities, and a random pile for the cd's whose cases are cardboard and don't fit in the racks.
On the computer I use window's media player which can sort them a lot of different ways. Depends on what I want to hear.

I try to keep my CDs sorted by artist and then title. And then about twice a year I get tired of searching through the stacks of cds that my girlfriend and I take out the cd player and pile on the shelf, floor, whatever and realphabetize them all.

actual music cd's are in cases on a rack, all numbered/labeled with their number in database (use prog called WhereIsIt? for databasing cd's. have separate db's for audio, data, and video).
on computer, mp3's are on their own 80 gig (almost full) in dirs by artist, with subdirs for each album.

Actual cd's are by Genre and the subgrouped by Artist/composer.
That way my classical isn't mixed in my pop/rock or my Jazz, etc. On the computer, it is strictly by artist and then subgrouped by album if available.

I sort by the most broad topic categories imaginable. I have two playlists: rock and techno. But rock really means everything from punk/ska to heavy metal to light industrial to alternative to classic rock and techno is kind of what that playlist started has but has since become a category for every random song I find that doesn't fit into rock as well as I'd like it to. Both playlists are around 10 hours I think. Oh well.

I usually let my feet do the sorting. Yep, that's what I like about 8-Tracks...they're so damn durable. They're just scattered around my floorboard. Alphabetical, chronological, genre, it's all rock and roll to me. The most difficult part is tweaking the mp3's and the 8-Tracks...little bit challenging to rip and burn, gigs are low, etc.
