How Do you Sort Your Music?

Well? How is it? by artist? Title? or maybe even album. I go with Artist, it makes it easiest to find a song.

WhoaitsZ 04-23-2003 03:35 PM

on my stereo i just put them in. my memory of arranged cds is very good.

on the pc i normally do all my mp3s by author alphabeticly.

meanSpleen 04-23-2003 04:01 PM

PC- Artist, CD
when the computer gets full, burn to cd's however i feel like
Actual music cd's - Just put them on the rack and look for them

Spungfoo 04-23-2003 04:18 PM

Physical CD's - no order, I have the ones I listen to ripped to ogg anyway

Pc - by artist, then I use a tag scanner to sort by album, date, category, etc.

SecretMethod70 04-23-2003 04:37 PM

Actual CD's are just all placed in a rack. I'll find them soon enough when I want to play them.

Music on the computer is sorted:

genre-->artist-->year - album-->track - title

KWSN 04-23-2003 05:01 PM

Artist -> Release Date.

Meaning, in laymen's terms, that I group by artist, and if I have more than one CD by a given artist, I put that artist's CD's in order of release date.

sierra2774 04-23-2003 07:19 PM

By Artist, Alphabetically. Easy to find them.

snowy 04-23-2003 07:34 PM

By what's most listened to (mine is a stack one on top of the other CDs) and in my CD case it's alphabetical, but it always ends up getting messed up. :(

Grondar 04-23-2003 08:28 PM

Artist / Album Name / Songs

The Artist folders are the alphabetically arranged.

Hitchcock 04-24-2003 06:32 AM

By artist, alphabetically works for me; nice and simple.

holtmate 04-24-2003 08:50 AM

By artist...on my PC and with my actual CDs

BubblegumTeflon 04-24-2003 09:08 AM

lots of cd's, I arrange them in whatever order they appeared on my computer. Sorting by date is weird but it works for me. . .

Mr. Ash 04-24-2003 09:16 AM

On the PC, artist. CD wise, randomly. Then I go hunting and digging. Joy.

onodrim 04-24-2003 09:24 AM

Computer wise, I go with artist myself. I have one folder for music with a bunch of different artists folders in there. For the ones I only have onesong of, they go in the Misc. folder. ACtualy CDs, radom, but I rarely use those anymore anyway. Pretty simple. :)

brokenlies 04-24-2003 09:46 AM

real CDs - Artist(alphabetically) - Album(chronological order of which they debuted)

Mp3 - seperate folder for the artist, then a seperate folder for each album, then the mp3's are like this: Artist - Album - track number - track name

SaltPork 04-24-2003 11:23 AM

sort??? what is this "sort" you are speaking of? STOP SWEARING AT ME!!!!!!!!!!

Troublebot 04-24-2003 12:23 PM

Alphabetical, according to group name or last name of artist. This is why you find Ben Folds Five in the "B's" and Ben Folds in the "F's".

Once you get to the group of artist, CD's are in chronological order, by release date.

Christ, I need to get a hobby.

World's King 04-24-2003 12:29 PM

By style. Then by artist. Then by date of release.

I have OCD.

fhqwhgads 04-24-2003 01:21 PM

I sort mine by color, texture, and then according to size.

genka 04-24-2003 01:42 PM

The 60 CD's of classical music that I recived over the course of two years by mail came with their own racks. All the cd's are themed, numbered, and come with a booklet(built into the cover) that explains the songs. I also got two little binders with all sorts of musical information in them.

degrawj 04-24-2003 03:18 PM

alphabetically of course. and then when i have more than one CD of a certain artist or group, i order them in the order they were released. anal? yes, but if you had over 400 CD's you would need a system to find certain CD's too.

vermin 04-24-2003 03:33 PM

Alphabetically by artist, then by release date, with a special section set aside for comedy/jazz/christmas/oddities, and a random pile for the cd's whose cases are cardboard and don't fit in the racks.

On the computer I use window's media player which can sort them a lot of different ways. Depends on what I want to hear.

Zotz 04-28-2003 09:21 AM

My CDs and MP3s are both sorted alphabetically by artist...not a terribly complex nor elaborate system but it seems to work just fine.

oldbob 04-28-2003 10:08 AM

I try to keep my CDs sorted by artist and then title. And then about twice a year I get tired of searching through the stacks of cds that my girlfriend and I take out the cd player and pile on the shelf, floor, whatever and realphabetize them all.

SiN 04-28-2003 10:18 AM

actual music cd's are in cases on a rack, all numbered/labeled with their number in database (use prog called WhereIsIt? for databasing cd's. have separate db's for audio, data, and video).

on computer, mp3's are on their own 80 gig (almost full) in dirs by artist, with subdirs for each album.

Lebell 04-28-2003 10:25 AM

Actual cd's are by Genre and the subgrouped by Artist/composer.

That way my classical isn't mixed in my pop/rock or my Jazz, etc.

On the computer, it is strictly by artist and then subgrouped by album if available.

schmuck 04-28-2003 10:32 AM

geographically by artists' home country.

Frosstbyte 04-28-2003 10:36 AM

I sort by the most broad topic categories imaginable. I have two playlists: rock and techno. But rock really means everything from punk/ska to heavy metal to light industrial to alternative to classic rock and techno is kind of what that playlist started has but has since become a category for every random song I find that doesn't fit into rock as well as I'd like it to. Both playlists are around 10 hours I think. Oh well.

mrsandman 04-28-2003 01:54 PM

I usually let my feet do the sorting. Yep, that's what I like about 8-Tracks...they're so damn durable. They're just scattered around my floorboard. Alphabetical, chronological, genre, it's all rock and roll to me. The most difficult part is tweaking the mp3's and the 8-Tracks...little bit challenging to rip and burn, gigs are low, etc.
