Coffin Screwdrivers
If anyone ever happens to run across one of these (they are hard to find) I collect them...or I'm trying to. I saw one in funeral home back in January and I've become obsessed with having some.
The "proper" name is a spiral screwdriver, and the ones I'm looking for were the ones patented by the Decatur Coffin Co in 1884 and the handle should have the Decatur Coffin Co stamp on it they only screw in one direction... you can read about them here if you're interested Spiral Screwdrivers of Decatur, Illinois I dont want to pay huge bucks for one, but if anyone happens to run into one somewhere... think of me!! |

I had a few of those a long time ago, but I didn't know of their relevant purpose.
Do only funerary homes and those associated with constructing coffins utilize this fixture, or is there a built-in purpose for these that can translate into other occupations? |
couldnt tell you... to my knowledge they are not used in present day for this purpose... but I could be wrong. Its the old ones used specifically for coffins Im interested in
