A quick question for the young and hip

This isn't really discussion-worthy, so I just posted here.

I drove somewhere this morning, early enough to see high school kids at their bus stops. Well I saw this one black dude wearing burgundy jeans, with obvious bleach splashes on them. What I'm wondering is if he bought the jeans this way or did he do them himself?

I remember when I tried 'acid washing' my own jeans by soaking them in bleach. Yeah that didn't work out well. But my attempt wasn't near as obvious as this dude's jeans were. It's like he just poured it on, making puddles and let it sit.

Is this something you can buy in stores now or was he just trying to be different like everyone else?

BadNick 09-01-2009 05:03 AM

seems like all the kids like to do something different all at the same time, like their favorite heroes: Top Trend: Bleached Denim - Swell Blog

wooÐs 09-01-2009 05:15 AM

Those look better than what I saw. Actually, that link looks more like my result when I soaked the jeans in bleach water. This guy's pants look like he just poured the bleach on, let it sit for an hour or so, then washed them.

I was just curious more than anything. I feel so old :(.

BadNick 09-01-2009 05:23 AM

from here you smell so young. If I didn't hide the bleach from my LD cleaning lady, all my clothes would look like what you are describing...and my rugs (I have a lot of hair so not meaning my "wig")

wooÐs 09-01-2009 05:34 AM

It was like this - but no splatters. Just the poured stain.

Well anyways, I don't think I'll be doing it to fit in with the cool crowd. Selling drugs at bus stops has been working just fine :o.

BadNick 09-01-2009 06:18 AM

you would give new meaning to "med cruise" ...and look hip while doing it

wooÐs 09-01-2009 06:25 AM

Ooh. This is true. hm.

Leto 09-01-2009 08:42 AM

You shocked me with the OP stating that kids were already going back to school. It's not even labour day yet, so I thought traditionally, there was one more week of summer holidays until the first day of school.

PonyPotato 09-01-2009 08:51 AM

Leto, different schools choose different dates to start and different dates/lengths of their vacations.

paddyjoe 09-01-2009 09:17 AM

fuck, I wish I was young and hip. or just young. ahh maybe just hip.

Until they break out the Bedazzler™, it's not young and hip yet.

Ed f'ing Hardy

I'm fairly unfamiliar with this brand but is it safe to say this s.o.b. is now an empire? I picked up a cool lighter at a gas station the other day - thought nothing of the name. Happened to Google Ed Hardy images - holy Christ...

wine, water, swimwear, kids' wear, shoes, skateboards, underwear, jewelry, shades, energy drinks, etc.

Someone fill me in on the Ed Hardy phenomenon - who wears it? Like, metal heads or rappers or skaters, etc. When I saw the wine, energy drinks and water, my jaw almost dropped lol. Insane.

Poppinjay 11-09-2009 08:27 AM

Yes, the Ed Hardy crap is everywhere. I found a display of Ed Hardy candles at Ross's. Once a product makes it to Ross's, it can no longer possibly be hip.

What's only now becoming known is that the in your face biker-working man tatoo imitation designs are not done a stiff named Ed Hardy, but by a fop named Christian Audigier.

I bleached my jeans when I was 22, 19 years ago. So that kid at the bus stop was not only unoriginal, he was imitating me. Tell him to stop before I issue a cease and desist order. I don't want this to get ugly.

I forgot he was also behind all the Von Dutch crap from a few years ago.

Plan9 11-09-2009 08:47 AM

I'm hip, I'm with it. See me at the bar? Yeah, I like to slow pump my biceps for hours with 30 pound dumbbells and then slide into a skin tight Affliction t-shirt and sideways cocked straight-bill baseball cap. I usually wear a white belt with a ridiculous buckle of some sort, too. I'm a cage fighter.

wooÐs 11-09-2009 08:49 AM

Don't think I'm familiar with that stuff.

Ok, this is sorta like 'Harley Davidson' then? Like, everyone wears it even though they're not bikers and such?

Poppinjay 11-09-2009 09:03 AM

Yeah. When I first saw the designs, it reminded me very much of the kind of stuff my best friend's mom decorated her trailer with, in the rural south, many years ago.

wooÐs 11-09-2009 09:15 AM

Got it.

*heads off to bleach jeans*

BogeyDope 11-09-2009 10:27 AM

I'm young, but not hip. Apparently, to my peers, "hip" is buying a 300 dollar pair of jeans that have been ripped/painted/bleached/sag to your knees.

Why you can't just buy a pair of 20 dollar jeans and rip it up yourself is beyond my comprehension.

I'm a photographer for a MMA website, needless to say I deal with real cage fighters on a weekly basis. I've met some top names [UFC contracts], but mostly I deal with smaller events. They're all great guys, and they always invite me out with them post-fights.

Anyways, it's always great to walk into a bar/club and see all the guys wearing those affliction t-shirts and being a complete dick, especially to the fighter I'm with. Then the fighter introduces himself, and you can smell the fear coming off the retard who think's he's greater than anything on this Earth.

/pointless side story

yikes! That might mean I'm "old and hip" since we were doing this in 1966 when I was 17, that's 43 years ago!!! We would buy perfectly good, cleaned, used jeans and go to town on those rags.

Leto 11-09-2009 02:09 PM

so cyclic... I was doing this in 1976 when I was 17.... deja-vu all over again!

wooÐs 11-09-2009 02:34 PM

Bleaching jeans = "I'm so damn cool that I fucking spilled bleach all over my fucking jeans and I don't even fucking care." {followed by random hand sign}

BadNick 11-09-2009 06:22 PM

OK, may I ask what this is? >
