Obscure pop-culture trivia game!
Here's how it works. I ask an obscure pop-culture trivia question. You attempt to answer. You PM me as soon as you have posted a possible answer. This makes me check the thread. As soon as someone gets it right, they have the opportunity to ask one of their own. As for the questions, anything goes... movies, TV, books, music, etc. Now, note that this is OBSCURE, not IMPOSSIBLE. Don't do something that no one in the world is going to get.
That being said, let me begin with this one: You hear the sound of a million people saying 'foop.' Then you hear the sound of a million people saying 'whop.' What just happened?

it's from Life, the Universe and Everything by Douglas Adams.
Hell, that was a hard find, I knew I had this book, but didn't know wich. 25 books or so later founded it. First looked over it 'cause I have the Dutch translation. Apparently "foop" and "whop" in Dutch is "fiouw" and "wok" (it's a really bad translation, but made by someone with too much time, it's not a official one..."

Amerika by Franz Kafka “As Karl Rossman, a poor boy of sixteen who had been packed off to America by his parents because a servant girl had seduced him and got herself a child by him, stood on the liner slowly entering the harbour of New York, a sudden burst of sunshine seemed to illumine the Statue of Liberty, so that he saw it in a new light, although he had sighted it long before. The arm with the sword rose up as if newly stretched aloft, and round the figure blew the free winds of heaven.” |

God job T.U.B.
Per your request (via PM, which you're SUPPOSED to send when you answer, if you read the instructions), I have another of my own... What kind of scene can you find invariably in ALL of Stanley Kubrick's movies?

Bones: don't make me eat your soul. Keep trying. And READ THE RULES. I'm getting no PMs whatsoever.... BTW, ONLY PM if you think you may have it right. Not if you're joking. If everyone who posts PM's, my brain explodes.

Is it that there is always a scene with a monolith featured somewhere in the background?
I've heard the answer to this question before, and its pissin me off cause I can't think of it, but I put this as a guess.

KWSN, why not just subscribe to this thread so you'll know when someone posts to it instead of asking people to PM you... some people may not want to PM anyone, but still may want to play the game. Just a thought.

However... no one has gotten it right as of yet. Please continue guessing. Here's a hint though: There's a scene in every Kubrick film that takes place in a certain type of room. I'll leave you to figure out which. Continue.
