damn, now jorgelito is HOT!!!

yes, I'm in a lighthouse.

Besides being a beautiful location, this lighthouse has some additional notoriety that you don't need to guess but I'll mention after it's guessed.

You are in a North Carolian Lighthouse

perhaps the one on Bodie Island

Oh I didn't know Cape Fear was already in N. Carolina

Kitty Hawk seems to be in the vicinity you claim to be, to my cartographer's eye at least.

No google allowed? Holy crap!! You guys are serious geographers. I've been struggling here going by memory and deduction.

I will keep trying though.

Cape Fear is in N. Carolina (I only know this cause of the movie).

Rhode Island is north of the Mason-Dixon line.

Our light house is 244 miles northeast of Cape Fear.

So perhaps in N. Carolina still or Virginia.

What about Cape Hatteras?

uncle phil and Jetée, sorry you guys are not guessing where I am.

jorge old buddy...I was joking about not using google. All of us have been using it quite extensively.

And YES!!! jorgelito got it! I'm in Cape Hatteras Lighthouse....and that additional notoriety I referred to above is the fact that it is the tallest lighthouse in the U.S.

Cape Hatteras Light is a lighthouse located on Hatteras Island in the Outer Banks of North Carolina near the community of Buxton. The Outer Banks are a group of islands on the North Carolina coast that separate the Atlantic Ocean from the coastal sounds and inlets. Atlantic currents in this area made for excellent travel for ships, except in the area of Diamond Shoals, just offshore at Cape Hatteras. Nearby, the warm Gulf Stream ocean current collides with the colder Labrador Current, creating ideal conditions for powerful ocean storms and sea swells. The large number of ships that ran aground because of these shifting sandbars, including the Civil War ironclad warship USS Monitor, gave this area the nickname “Graveyard of the Atlantic.” It also led Congress to authorize the construction of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse which is recognized by the National Park Service as the tallest lighthouse in America. The lighthouse is one of several on the North Carolina coast that are still operational including the Currituck, Bodie Island, Ocracoke, Cape Lookout, and Oak Island lighthouses.

Specifications
Construction material: Approximately 1,250,000 bricks
Height above sea level: 210 feet (64 m)
Height of the structure: about 207½ feet (63.2 m) (from the bottom of the foundation footer to the top of the spire on the roof)
Daymark: black and white spiral stripes
Number of steps: 268 steps to reach the light
Brightness: 800 kilocandelas from each of two 1000-watt lamps
Flash pattern: Every 7.5 seconds a short flash is visible
Visibility: From 20 nautical miles (37 km) in clear conditions. In exceptional conditions, it has been seen from 51 miles (94 km) out.

The top ten tallest lighthouses in the U.S.:
1) 207 feet (68 m) - Cape Hatteras Light, North Carolina (height includes 10 feet underground) [1]
2) 191 feet (63 m) - Cape Charles, Virginia [2]
3) 175 feet (57 m) - Ponce de Leon Inlet Light, Florida [3]
4) 172 feet (56 m) - Barnegat Light, New Jersey
5) 169 feet (55 m) - Absecon Light, New Jersey
6) 169 feet (55 m) - Cape Lookout, North Carolina]
7) 169 feet (55 m) - Oak Island Light, North Carolina]
8) 168 feet (55 m) - Fire Island Light, New York
9) 165 feet (54 m) - St. Augustine Light, Florida
10) 158 feet (52 m) - Bodie Island Light, North Carolina

So you're up jorgelito.

It happens, my guess, Timbuktu, is a few degrees into the WH. So I'm wrong too.

I'll be sitting the rest of this one out as well I guess.

My money's on Nick. So far his answer is the only one to fit all the clues.

Then I'll take the center square for the win.

Wouldn't worry about be off a bit. We've all done it. For my very first flag planting I choose Portugal which I assumed was in the EH... it wasn't, still isn't. Just west of PM, just like Timbuktu.

So, where be I?
