Since unc mentioned Jefferson, I'm throwing in some interesting related geography. Here's a nice pic of Mt. Jefferson in Oregon. Wiki: Mount Jefferson is a stratovolcano in the Cascade Volcanic Arc, the Cascade Range and is the second-highest mountain in Oregon. Situated in the far northeastern corner of Linn County about 60 miles (97 km) east of Corvallis, Jefferson is in a rugged wilderness and is thus one of the hardest volcanoes to reach in the Cascades though USFS road 1044 does come within 4 miles (6.4 km) of the summit. Many people consider Jefferson's craggy, deeply glacially scarred appearance to be especially beautiful and photogenic. The peak has therefore frequently served as a backdrop for automobile and alcohol advertisements in the United States.

Jefferson's not very coastal.

Jefferson sent a couple guys this way in 1804, they returned in 1806.

The number of great trout lakes up there is mind boggling. I've been to the end of that USFS road, it's more rumor than actual road.

I was just going for Astoria, but I'll certainly take Fort Clatsop. The recreation of the old fort burned down a year or so before I left so they were busy recreating the recreation as I left.

The last town I lived in in the states, an even smaller community of about 200, is just about right where that "30" is on the second map.

You're up!

I'm not in Brazil. Though I'm not in a landlocked country, I am not on the coast, either.

Have a safe drive and I hope all went reasonably well down there.

oops, Tul jumped in just ahead of me:

Nope, not anywhere in South America. I wonder if they have Waffle Houses in South America?

Not Antarctica. I'm north of the equator.

Hey, remember I was in Antarctica a while back?...or was that one of you guys? Also, isn't Antarctica an island? I always think of it as one.

Since it's been quite hot around here lately, well over 90F and humid for many days, I'll throw in this pic of a nice cool spot.

When you posted "Not New Hampshire" I thought you were making a joking statement that you were not in the northern hemisphere, sorry. So northwest hemisphere?

And I think Antarctica is a cont. From Wiki:

Antarctica is Earth's southernmost continent, overlying the South Pole. It is situated in the southern hemisphere, almost entirely south of the Antarctic Circle, and is surrounded by the Southern Ocean. At 14.4 million km² (5.4 million sq mi), it is the fifth-largest continent in area after Asia, Africa, North America, and South America. Some 98% of Antarctica is covered by ice, which averages at least 1.6 kilometres (1.0 mi) in thickness.

I want to go so I can become a member of the "7" Club. A group of people who've been on all seven continents. Kind of like the mile high club without the sex.

So North America?

yes, North America.

I apologize if I missed unc's joke about New Hampshire meaning Nothern Hemisphere...I was wondering why he jumped to such a specific relatively small place, but I figured that's just unc.

And I did just look up why some land masses surrounded by water are considered islands but others are not. If they are continents then they are not considered islands, and being a continent is partly due to being on a tectonic plate.

No worries on the joke, our shorthand is hard to follow at times. UP started using New Hampshire for the NH sometime ago, it's confused me more then once.

In the US?

Nope, good guess though since there is a lot of interesting wetness associated with Yellowstone. But I'm on the other side of the Mississippi.

I'm totally fascinated by Yellowstone, especially the caldera. Did you know that the earth's crust at Yellowstone is the thinnest of anyplace on earth? That thing is a gigantic volcano that will erupt again some day. I was fortunate to be able to explore that area before tourist season so there was practically nobody there but me...and I kept thinking "me and the grizzlies" who have been sleeping all winter and are just waking up and what do they smell for food?...me.

Old Faithful didn't meet the "states" clue. If you enter Yellowstone from Wyoming there's a large sign that reads "Grizzly Bears are dangerous, do not approach." No kidding! "Hey honey get a picture of me feeding and petting this bear." "Yeah let me grab the camera out of the car... Uh, honey? Honey where'd you go?"

Didn't know that about the earths crust in that area. Interesting.

Ok, Erie Canal?
