Visitors to Our Lady of the Rockies, a 90-foot statue placed on the East Ridge overlooking Butte, can see Montana peaks and valleys as far as 100 miles. Our Lady, built entirely by volunteers and maintained by a non-profit organization, was begun in 1979 and completed in 1985. The statue was built in sections in Butte. In the fall of 1985, 400 tons of concrete were poured for its base. In December, members of the Montana National Guard, the Army Reserve and teams of civilian workers cooperated as the statue was lifted to the site in sections by an Air National Guard team from Nevada, using a Sky Crane helicopter.

At the statue site visitors are able to go inside the towering metal structure. Our Lady of the Rockies is dedicated to women, regardless of religion. Around the base of the observatory on the mountain is a women's memorial wall consisting of the names of 13,000 women who have died throughout the world.

BadNick 10-09-2008 11:39 AM

Bruce would be proud of you, Tul. But not Asbury Park...you're too far north.

Tully Mars 10-09-2008 11:47 AM

In an Atlantic coast state?

uncle phil 10-09-2008 12:20 PM

gulf state?

BadNick 10-09-2008 01:14 PM

Not a Gulf state, but yes an Atlantic Coast state.

I'm pretty much inland in this state, not near the shore. The interesting feature I'm looking at is in a State Park.

uncle phil 10-09-2008 01:45 PM

BadNick 10-10-2008 07:04 AM

Not Kennesaw, not Barbiesaw, not a mountain. Think "waterfalls" and go northeast about 50 miles from Kennesaw Mt.

uncle phil 10-10-2008 12:26 PM

chattahoochee national forest?

BadNick 10-10-2008 01:31 PM

uncle phil 10-10-2008 02:37 PM

BadNick 10-10-2008 08:16 PM

say uncle if you give up...here's another clue but don't accuse me of being too obvious:

I met her in a club down in old soho
Where you drink champagne and it tastes just like cherry-cola [lp version:
Coca-cola]
C-o-l-a cola
She walked up to me and she asked me to dance
I asked her her name and in a dark brown voice she said lola
L-o-l-a lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola

uncle phil 10-11-2008 02:53 AM

not lake lanier...

BadNick 10-11-2008 08:55 AM

yes...not lake lanier.

Does Lake Lanier have anything to do with Lola? Lo-Lo-Lo-Lo-la...get kinky on me, unc.

uncle phil 10-11-2008 03:27 PM

50 miles northeast of kennesaw mountain is chattahoochee...35 miles southwest of chattahoochee is lake lanier...i'm stymied...

Tully Mars 10-11-2008 04:03 PM

I went over google maps and my GPS software this morning and I got nothing in that area that ties into Lola or the Kinks.

I have a feeling I'm going to feel stupid when I see the answer.

girldetective 10-11-2008 06:34 PM

I sorta hate to jump in here after you all have done the work, but you fellas seem a little perplexed.

Im guessing Amicalola Falls, GA.

BadNick 10-11-2008 06:57 PM

thank you very much, ms. detective. Yes, I'm at Amicalola Falls. I'm glad you found, me, now you're up.

unc and Tul seem to NOT be wise guys this time, so I'm throwing in this pic of a couple of cute little wise owls from Amicalola State Park.

It's easy to see why this is one of Georgia's most popular state parks. Amicalola, a Cherokee Indian word meaning
"tumbling waters," is an appropriate name for these 729-foot falls ~~ the tallest cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi River.

Amicalola Falls State Park is an 829-acre (3.35 km²) Georgia state park located between Ellijay and Dahlonega in Dawsonville, Georgia.
The park's name is derived from a Cherokee language word meaning "tumbling waters". The park is home to a 729-foot (222 m) waterfall,
making it the highest in Georgia.[1] It is considered to be one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Georgia. An eight-mile trail that winds
past Amicalola Falls and leads to Springer Mountain, famous for being the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail, begins in the park.
Amicalola Falls State Park also offers many hiking trails, a guest lodge, Restaurant, cabins, a shelter for long distance Appalachian
Trail hikers, a campground and access to the eco-friendly Len Foote Hike Inn.
