Hmmm....some sort of lighthouse?

BadNick 08-06-2008 08:56 AM

damn, now jorgelito is HOT!!!

yes, I'm in a lighthouse.

Besides being a beautiful location, this lighthouse has some additional notoriety that you don't need to guess but I'll mention after it's guessed.

jorgelito 08-06-2008 12:15 PM

Cape Fear?

Can we use google?

BadNick 08-06-2008 12:25 PM

Not Cape Fear...so go about 244 miles northeast.

"use google"??? I live on google for this game. So NO, you are not allowed or you'll get too good at it ;)

uncle phil 08-06-2008 01:46 PM

watch point, rhode island?

Jetée 08-06-2008 01:55 PM

You are in a North Carolian Lighthouse

perhaps the one on Bodie Island
-----Added 6/8/2008 at 06 : 00 : 57-----
Oh I didn't know Cape Fear was already in N. Carolina :o

Kitty Hawk seems to be in the vicinity you claim to be, to my cartographer's eye at least.

uncle phil 08-06-2008 04:18 PM

or, cape may, new jersey?

jorgelito 08-06-2008 04:21 PM

No google allowed? Holy crap!! You guys are serious geographers. I've been struggling here going by memory and deduction.

I will keep trying though.

Cape Fear is in N. Carolina (I only know this cause of the movie).

Rhode Island is north of the Mason-Dixon line.

Our light house is 244 miles northeast of Cape Fear.

So perhaps in N. Carolina still or Virginia.

What about Cape Hatteras?

BadNick 08-06-2008 04:51 PM

uncle phil and Jetée, sorry you guys are not guessing where I am.

jorge old buddy...I was joking about not using google. All of us have been using it quite extensively.

And YES!!! jorgelito got it! I'm in Cape Hatteras Lighthouse....and that additional notoriety I referred to above is the fact that it is the tallest lighthouse in the U.S.

Cape Hatteras Light is a lighthouse located on Hatteras Island in the Outer Banks of North Carolina near the community of Buxton. The Outer Banks are a group of islands on the North Carolina coast that separate the Atlantic Ocean from the coastal sounds and inlets. Atlantic currents in this area made for excellent travel for ships, except in the area of Diamond Shoals, just offshore at Cape Hatteras. Nearby, the warm Gulf Stream ocean current collides with the colder Labrador Current, creating ideal conditions for powerful ocean storms and sea swells. The large number of ships that ran aground because of these shifting sandbars, including the Civil War ironclad warship USS Monitor, gave this area the nickname “Graveyard of the Atlantic.” It also led Congress to authorize the construction of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse which is recognized by the National Park Service as the tallest lighthouse in America. The lighthouse is one of several on the North Carolina coast that are still operational including the Currituck, Bodie Island, Ocracoke, Cape Lookout, and Oak Island lighthouses.

Jetée 08-06-2008 05:01 PM

I also thought in the beginning that it was not right to use Google. It hasn't helped me thus far.

jorgelito 08-06-2008 05:03 PM

Oh my! And this whole time I felt quite inadequate, like a "lesser nerd".

ItWasMe 08-06-2008 07:50 PM

Did he just call us nerds?

jorgelito: try google earth. awesome now that you can do 'sky view' and see the planets.

Jetée 08-06-2008 08:04 PM

You are within a continent that has no 'A' whatsoever in the vernacular

jorgelito 08-07-2008 01:18 AM

Jetée 08-07-2008 01:23 AM

BadNick 08-07-2008 06:18 PM

Btw, whether you are or not, Nepal is the only country in the world to have a national flag that is not a quadrilateral.

No, not Nepal. They do have a cool flag though. Plus they are no longer a monarchy.

It happens, my guess, Timbuktu, is a few degrees into the WH. So I'm wrong too.

I'll be sitting the rest of this one out as well I guess.

My money's on Nick. So far his answer is the only one to fit all the clues.

Yes! Good job. Timbuktu was a renowned center of learning and is located in current day Mali. I could have sworn it was located in the Eastern hemisphere; my apologies for the mistake.

Great guesses you guys.

BadNick 08-08-2008 11:08 AM

damn, so Tully is so smart he doesn't even know how smart he is!!! Way to go, Tul...but don't be tipping a canoe.

Great guesses you guys.

Then I'll take the center square for the win.

Wouldn't worry about be off a bit. We've all done it. For my very first flag planting I choose Portugal which I assumed was in the EH... it wasn't, still isn't. Just west of PM, just like Timbuktu.

So, where be I?
