I never said I was on the sofa if you look back, so you're in the wrong country Mr. America. My Canadian cousins always teased me when I was a little kid and thought America = U.S. Now I know better ...unc!

are you in the land of the fly, BC? |
I'm not.
|
saskatchewan?
|
not there either, you went a bit too far east
This place I am is a natural feature that is mostly significant because ancient inhabitants of the area used that feature in an unusual way to help them survive. When I first found out about it I was intruiged so you might also appreciate the history there. Plus, I was attracted to the unusual name of this place since it reminds me of my own mental status. |
Are you near canada's Stonehenge, aka the Sun Temple in Southern Alberta?
And Hey, Oh! |
close but no cigar, amonkie. I'm in Alberta, but south of that place by about 100 miles.
disclaimer: the following are not clues And hey, "Oh" to you, too, eh? I hope you got nice and hosed on May two-fer ...I was saluting Victoria most of that day in Toronto until I fell over. |
near stand off?
|
|
pincher creek?
|
nope. Go N.E. about 30 miles. The place I am is not in a town, though there is a visitor center dedicated to this place within less than 10 miles...as the crow flies. Along roads it would be a few extra miles between the two.

Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump
|
no pops, but YES Head-Smashed-In-Buffalo Jump. Way to go, Zooks. You're up, go hide.
Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump is a buffalo jump located where the foothills of the Rocky Mountains begin to rise from the prairie 18 km northwest of Fort Macleod, Alberta, Canada on highway 785. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home of a museum of Blackfoot culture. http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...ump-27527-.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...c010274-v6.jpg The buffalo jump was used for 5,500 years by the indigenous peoples of the plains to kill buffalo, by driving them off the 11 metre high cliff. The Blackfoot drove the buffalo from a grazing area in the Porcupine Hills about 3 kilometres west of the site to the "drive lanes," lined by hundreds of cairns, then at full gallop over a cliff, breaking their legs, rendering them immobile. The cliff itself is about 300 metres long, and at its highest point drops 10 metres into the valley below. The site was in use at least 6,000 years ago, and the bone deposits are 12 metres deep. After falling off the cliff, the buffalo carcasses were processed at a nearby camp. One estimate places the number of buffalo slaughtered here over the years at 123,000. http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...98f5aeaa_o.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...ffalo_jump.jpg In Blackfoot, the name for the site is Estipah-skikikini-kots. According to legend, a young Blackfoot wanted to watch the buffalo plunge off the cliff from below, but was buried underneath the falling buffalo. He was later found dead under the pile of carcasses "where he got his head smashed in" http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...4actXgd_fs.jpg |
Crazy name for it...
I wonder if young Blackfoot was ever a Dawin award member.... Anyways..... Where in the world am I. And its NOT mainland America..... |
