...nooooooooo...*shiver*
I think you might be right on, unc.

BadNick 03-06-2010 01:00 PM

unc, you are now chillin' in the right zone

But I am on what I described as "sort of an island in a strange way" so put those concepts together and find me, keeping in mind I like places that have some claim to supremacy of some kind.

uncle phil 03-06-2010 02:15 PM

mcmurdo sound, until something better comes to mind later?

Jetée 03-06-2010 06:23 PM

Has anybody pinned down your hemispherical quandrant as of yet BadNick?

BadNick 03-07-2010 07:20 PM

Yes, Jet. In fact, I've been positively located in the EH part of Antarctica. Now looking for that superlative island sort of thing I'm on.

unc, you're very close. I was there a while back but now I'm out of that immediate area.

uncle phil 03-08-2010 03:18 AM

Great Wall Station?

Shell 03-08-2010 06:08 AM

...are you on a floating ice shelf?

BadNick 03-08-2010 07:52 AM

unc, no.

Shell, I used to be part of the Ross Ice Shelf but now I'm sort of independent and on my own.

uncle phil 03-08-2010 12:29 PM

the Great Ice Barrier?

BadNick 03-08-2010 01:23 PM

unc, you have the right idea but not quite on the mark yet. Now picture what might happen if one of those ice barriers were to break off the ice shelf. I'm looking for a specific one where that happened, and it's famous so it has a name and number....hey, you know my name, look up the number...nice Beatles tune

uncle phil 03-08-2010 01:43 PM

the London Ice Shelf?

Shell 03-08-2010 04:02 PM

...B-15?

BadNick 03-08-2010 07:13 PM

Shell wins again! You're up, hunny chi'l! That's a two-fer, Shell, congrats. Please note that if you read "the fine print" you'll find that it is not allowed to pass the baton twice in a row.

Iceberg B-15 was the largest iceberg in the world (measuring about 11,000 square kilometers) when it broke away from Western Antarctica’s Ross Ice Shelf in March 2000. It held that distinction for over three years until splitting into two pieces in early October, 2003. It was larger than the island of Jamaica. Note that after almost a decade, parts of B-15 still have not melted. Iceberg B-15 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...0I/B15a_a4.jpg

A sad twist of fate: The B15 iceberg killed millions of penguins when it came off the mainland in March of 2000 and blocked the animals' access to the open sea. Researchers of Scripps Institution of Oceanography said, 75 percent of penguins' population in the Adely colony had been killed due to the iceberg. Even today, tens of thousands of penguin chicks face starvation because their parents have limited access to food from the open sea.

uncle phil 03-09-2010 03:25 AM

shit, i was looking for a superlative NAME; should guessed B-15 three guesses ago...

nice goin', shell...

...oops, I did it again.
You're so cute when you get mad, uncle phil.
Did anyone ever tell you your ears get red
on the tips when you get angry?

I'll let you relax in my tub while I'm traveling...take a deep breath,
smell the frangipani, use my bubblebath if you must,
and I'll even let you play with your submarine.

...well, amonkie, chalk another one up for the girls.
I'll be back after I consult my travel agent.

BadNick 03-09-2010 06:56 AM

stangely enough my search has led me to believe there is such a thing as a "frangipani sandwich"! So while I munch on that, I'll guess you're going to the Frangipani Beach Resort...but obviously you're not there yet since the beach chairs are all empty
