Sorry, Jet, not Byron Bay beach. Actually I'm not sorry, I'm glad no one has found me yet! :)

uncle phil 07-15-2009 11:54 AM

bondi beach?

BadNick 07-15-2009 11:59 AM

nope. the word "beach" is not in the name of where I am. I am almost 100 miles south of Bondi Beach.

uncle phil 07-15-2009 12:25 PM

are you a mountain?

BadNick 07-15-2009 12:47 PM

no, I'm in a town that was recently in the news.

Jetée 07-15-2009 01:04 PM

Did the Washington Post feature an article about it?

(and in case it did, but you didn't know it because you found the news elsewhere, here's a google search, "australia site:washingtonpost.com" ... also, type in what the story was about and details to see if the Post ran it within the last week.)

uncle phil 07-15-2009 01:46 PM

canberra?

BadNick 07-15-2009 04:19 PM

nope, not Canberra.

Jet, I checked and the Washington Post did feature an article about this town and why it was in the news. I can't imagine it was not in every news source for the same reason. The BBC, Boston Globe, Philadelphia Inquirer, NY Times, Pravda, Al Jazeera, Twitter...the news was everywhere.

Is that right? I would have thought if I eliminated the Post, I'd go onto the Mail, Times, then Sun, but if they all ran it, perhaps a general search is in order.

In the news, did the story say that at least one person died?

Shell 07-15-2009 04:57 PM

...Goulburn?

BadNick 07-15-2009 05:17 PM

No, the story did not say anything about anyone dying.

Shell, not Goulburn...are you sure it doesn't have an "e" at the end? ;) Goulburne?...but not there, either. You're pretty close, less than 50 miles...go east, young woman, go east

Shell 07-15-2009 05:37 PM

...Bowral?

BadNick 07-15-2009 05:44 PM

not Bowral. But you're within 20 miles.

I can't believe none of you heard the story about why this town was in the news. As soon as I heard it I said "I'm gonna use that in the Where In the World Am I?" game next chance I get.

Shell 07-15-2009 05:54 PM

...haven't found a thing in the news but i'm now an expert on India's Mercury Industry, Massachusset's defunct military installations, and NSW Cricket and roos...and it's all gotten me nowhere...except a bad case of Google-eyes...lol

...camden?

(...i don't have very detailed map resources either so these little towns on the other side of the world are a killer)

:rose:

BadNick 07-15-2009 06:10 PM

sorry Shell, not Camden. Shhhh...clue for you but don't tell anybody else: use some of the terms we already know above combined with "water" and you might find it.

uncle phil 07-16-2009 02:39 AM

seven mile beach?

BadNick 07-16-2009 03:28 AM

search some of the names of places that have been confirmed and then include the search term "water" since the recent news about this town was related to water.

Shell 07-16-2009 03:40 AM

...Bundanoon?

:rose:

uncle phil 07-16-2009 03:41 AM

shellharbour?

BadNick 07-16-2009 06:10 AM

DING DING DING!!!! Shell has found me in Bundanoon. You're up, Shell.

This town made the news on July 9th as the first town in the world to ban bottled water, apparently for environmental reasons http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/16/wo...iht-water.html
Actually their concept makes sense to me, similar to negative effects of too many disposable items in our trash, litter, and the economic burden thereof.

God, I hope she is eighteen. I have the sudden urge to cross the sea for her.

Shell 07-16-2009 12:04 PM

...see?...you missed your calling, jet...ya shoulda been one of those cheerleader guys

...okay...i'm in the northwestern hemisphere. I'm not looking for a town or building but rather a general area within a country that has been labeled a name according to the results of a rather recent and widely known study that was done. I want the country name and the area name

...and if you guess right away according to that clue i'll scream...because it took me forever to get here :orly: :)

:rose:

Jetée 07-16-2009 12:12 PM

a country's area that resides or touches the Atlantic Ocean? (US would technically apply if you are indeed there, but I'd be beyond confused if you say 'yes', and you are actually in Chicago or New Mexico. My clues are abounding :? )

BadNick 07-16-2009 12:15 PM

are you in the Nunavut part of Canada?

Shell 07-16-2009 12:18 PM

...not in canada

...not on the atlantic

Jetée 07-16-2009 12:23 PM

Eastern Hemisphere

BadNick 07-16-2009 12:28 PM

Sorry, Shell already said she's in the northwestern hemisphere.

Shell,

Shell 07-16-2009 12:36 PM

Jetée 07-16-2009 12:39 PM

The Sunbelt of US?

uncle phil 07-16-2009 12:42 PM

Shell 07-16-2009 12:45 PM

uncle phil 07-16-2009 12:46 PM

BadNick 07-16-2009 12:57 PM

Are you in Mexico?

Seeker5509 07-16-2009 01:00 PM

On the Pacific coast?

Shell 07-16-2009 01:03 PM

....screeeech....wait...we've got hot flashers in the room??? :oogle:

:rose:

---------- Post added at 05:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:01 PM ----------

...seeker, yes...the country i'm in is on the pacific :)

:rose:

uncle phil 07-16-2009 01:27 PM

canada?

Jetée 07-16-2009 01:31 PM

Okay, the way I see it come together... you are not in northwestern US, nor in Canada, not anywhere in the Sunbelt vicinity, and you border the pacific.

Are you in a country where the main language is Spanish?
