...great location there tully...good job! I use to love to camp until i
went with the 4th grade boyscout troop...never got any sleep!

...but my favorite camping trip was trout fishing by a lake in the Grand Tetons
years ago. Watched the muscrat swimming in the still wee hours
of the morning when the lake was like glass. So serene.

uncle phil 06-19-2009 05:32 AM

hey nick, you anywhere near the delaware water gap?

BadNick 06-19-2009 05:41 AM

Tul, I wasn't exactly sure what part of Detroit Lake State Park you might be in. I was going to mention the island shown in the pic...is that Piety Island?...but other than that sign I couldn't find anything more about it.

Give me a little time to find a new place to go.

unc, do you mean relative to this game, or just in general real life? Here's where my butt is planted this very minute, though on this map you can't really see my butt without a microscope

in that case, NO. Believe it or not, I was actually going to go to Treasure Island located in the Delaware River south of the Water Gap, mainly because Shell's comment about being kept up all night at the Boy Scout camp reminded me of being there...it's a local Scout Camp property in the middle of the Delaware River and I have fond memories of being there. One being that I was singled out (unfairly I might add!) with a buddy, for starting a food fight in the cafeteria and they said I had to go home :( This was on the second day of a two week camp! So my buddy and I snuck out of camp and hit in the woods for two days, they sent out search parties, including senior scouts and our Marine drill instructor scout master, but nobody could find us. At one point I was up in a tree with my clothes stuffed with "camouflage" branches and weeds and a search party stopped under my tree to discuss where to look for me next...ahhh, I was so cool! But eventually we got too hungry and gave up and they sent me home with no refund :shakehead: But this led to a very happy and successful Boy Scout career for me over the next few years, so all's well that ends well.

yes, the small company I work for has our office and factory in Ivyland, just around the corner from Tony's Place Bar & Grill, where I will be having lunch later today. You are all invited, lunch and drinks are on me.

PS: so where am I?

BadNick 06-19-2009 10:57 AM

A little side trip report: I had lunch today at Tony's and fell in love with Stephani who is a relatively new waitress, age appropriate I might add. Her name is actually Stephanie but the "e" drops out of my awareness of her existence and also from her name as printed on the check due to some ancient geophysical limitation of DOS only being able to handle 8 character file names. I had a couple of Rogue Red Ales (thank you, Oregon) with my grouper sandwich.

OK, where the hell am I? Since Stephani lost her "e" I'll say I'm in the EH

Jetée 06-19-2009 10:59 AM

Was she blonde?

---------- Post added at 02:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:58 PM ----------

And did you circumvent the automerging as well? This thread is weird in that way.

BadNick 06-19-2009 11:07 AM

no, she's very non-blonde. Hey, I have to relisten to those 4 Non Blondes on my way home!

and

apparently. Jetée, perhaps the automerge function is sometimes, though not always, verklempt

Jetée 06-19-2009 11:20 AM

I'm glad to hear you found your love, BadNick, and I hope to find my love Stephanie this coming fall.

South Asia? (I always forget which way is east)

...HEY, you two-timing grouper-breath! I showed up at Tony's this afternoon for my free lunch and free drink and you ONLY had eyes for "stephani-without-an-e" the ENTIRE time! humpfff :orly:

...NH?

BadNick 06-19-2009 12:12 PM

I bet Shell with an "e" is better than some smell-e old Stephani without an "e" any day.

Not Asia.

Yes NH.

Yes, that's Piety Island. It's really a hill that's still above water after they built the Detroit Dam. Back in the early 80's a few friends and I made it a regular place to camp. Stores in the town of Detroit would sell beer to anyone back then, but the park rangers would fine you and take your beer in the parks. So we'd buy the beer and row our inflatable rafts out to the island. It's a good plan to drink the beer after rowing out to the island or so I've been told.

So US?

BadNick 06-19-2009 12:28 PM

nope, not U.S. this time

Shell 06-19-2009 12:35 PM

...middle east?

...oh, and i saw that ;)

BadNick 06-19-2009 12:42 PM

no, not middle east but that's getting closer. I'm in NH/EH.

Just looking for the city this time, no particular building or nude beach.

Tully Mars 06-19-2009 12:52 PM

Europe

BadNick 06-19-2009 12:54 PM

yes, Europe

...between stephani-without-an-e and the nude beach...you're sounding a little frisky today. I'll guess it's a romantic getaway of sorts...i'm imagining you lunching on a baguette and cheese underneath the Eiffel Tower in Paris, hiking a 500 year old footpath between two villages in England's Cotswolds, or marveling at first century ruins on a Greek Island!

...okay...here's my guess:

...Füssen, a picturesque town at the foot of the Bavarian Alps that conjures images of a fairytale kingdom with its beautiful castles, medieval town centre and azure lakes. Perhaps at the Neuschwanstein Castle, the dream residence of the ‘Fairy-Tale King,’ King Ludwig II. Ludwig who was a hopeless romantic...his iconic castle served as the inspiration for the Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland. Just a beautiful Bavarian town.

Tully Mars 06-19-2009 06:19 PM

Romania?

BadNick 06-19-2009 07:26 PM

I'm not there but hey, can I change my mind and be at the Neuschwanstein Castle? ...sounds like a beautiful romantic place:

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...ein_castle.jpg

See that little semi-circular area on the "back porch" on the right? That reminds me of a castle in Austria that my parents used to take me to when I was a baby boy. I was born in Braunau Austria near Salzburg and that's where the castle is. I remember a semi-circular pool on one terrace with a scary gargoyle face spouting water from its mouth into the pool and I was afraid to look at it and would hide behind my mother's dress.

Tul, not Romania either/again...but I can almost hear my relatives saying "The blood is the life"

Shell 06-19-2009 07:53 PM

...what a beautiful photo. Sounds like you lived a charmed life.

...are you touching the mediterranean?

BadNick 06-19-2009 08:01 PM

yes, on the meds

Shell 06-19-2009 08:36 PM

...an island?

Tully Mars 06-20-2009 02:44 AM

I knew you were on something.

Italy?

BadNick 06-20-2009 07:30 AM

not an island and not Italy

Shell 06-20-2009 08:13 AM

...france?

Tully Mars 06-20-2009 08:52 AM

Is Greece the word this time?

Jetée 06-20-2009 11:22 AM

Balkan country?

BadNick 06-20-2009 12:13 PM

not france not Greece

yes, I'm in the Balkans

Shell 06-20-2009 05:15 PM

...Yugoslavia?

Jetée 06-20-2009 05:50 PM

psst... say "Albania"

Shell 06-20-2009 06:00 PM

:expressionless:...why are we whispering? YOU say Albania :) I think it's a country that touches Hungary because he was born there

`

BadNick 06-20-2009 07:21 PM

ssshhhh....i'm being quiet since tomorrow is father's day

Jet, not Albania.

Shell, "Yugoslavia" would be correct if there was still such a country, but there is no longer a Yugoslavia. This ref is a correct description of the status of all the republics that used to be Yugoslavia prior to June 2006 Yugoslavia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

So I am in a really cool city that is in one of the former Yugoslav republics.

BadNick 06-21-2009 08:48 AM

not Serbia and not Kosovo

thanks, Shell. I'm having a nice, relaxed Father's Day. If the rain holds off, later I'll go for a spirited drive up and down my favorite local winding road to pump up my adrenaline again. For presents, so far I got some bundles of love, a couple cool shirts, and Octane magazine for which I will have to learn "english" again. Don't let your bonnet slam on your fingers and watch those bodies in your boot.

Tully Mars 06-21-2009 09:05 AM

Montenegro?

Bodies in boots? Dare I ask?

BadNick 06-21-2009 10:27 AM

not Montenegro, Tul. Hey, Happy Father's Day since I know you're a great dad, too.

I was alluding to bodies in car trunks, but the British "english" calls the car trunk a boot.
