you got it, Tul. I remember the first time I saw his marble and bronze sarcophagus and read about his historic significance to the U.S. I was somewhat overwhelmed and in awe. It reminded me of the majesty of Napolean's tomb in Paris.
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...Jonesgrave.jpg John Paul Jones - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Sadly, while he died in France in 1792, his remains were not found and identified by respectful U.S. representatives until 1905! In 1905, Jones' remains were identified by US Ambassador to France Gen. Horace Porter (Goodheart 2006) who had searched for six years to track down the body using faulty copies of Jones' burial record. |
Never been there, should go being Navy and all. Wonder if Gen. Porter found the right body?

I have a connection to Reagan. |
I like to call him Ronnie RayGun ...but he gave that rousing speech and challenge at the Berlin Wall's Brandenburg Gate:
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...BerlinWall.jpg "Tear down this wall!" was the famous challenge from United States President Ronald Reagan to Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev to destroy the Berlin Wall. In a speech at the Brandenburg Gate commemorating the 750th anniversary of Berlin, by the Berlin Wall on June 12, 1987, Reagan challenged Gorbachev, then the General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, to tear it down as a symbol of Reagan's desire for increasing freedom in the Eastern Bloc. |
