The Victim Lottery

Compensation for the families of the Virginia Tech victims sets an unfortunate precedent. The tragedy of the massacre should not become an opportunity to be enriched. Neither this settlement nor the fund for the families directly affected by the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, should become harbingers for awards. To expect to benefit from this loss trivializes the tragedy and diverts attention and focus from the victims. I don't believe that money can compensate loss, and to think otherwise is misguided.

The deaths of these students and teachers among so many potential other victims on campus was a grim lottery of sorts -- but there should be no "winners."

Sometimes I wonder if I love her too much, so I get angry over little things because I'm afraid of it going so well. OR if I convinced myself that I love her this much, because I'd die alone without her.

I feel guilty for wishing that my mom would hurry up and die so I can get on with my life. I just want her out of pain, no matter how it happens, but realistically, it's going to happen through death. I have a LOT of anger right now about the way my "life" is.

I really enjoyed my trip to NYC... March of 2001, went to the top of the World Trade Center, the Empire State building, the Statue of Liberty, and because it was St. Patrick's Day when we landed, the parade with all the yummy firemen, then off to drink green beer. Also, a great little hole in the wall Italian joint in southern Manhattan, and a fun little club where i danced for hours.

Also, I'm excited, yet also apprehensive about my job interview tomorrow.

Okay, i have a few truths floating around in my head, and don't want to forget any of them.

1- OCM, that's really cool! times like that when you wish you had your camera with you. i was mowing the lawn yesterday, and a dragonfly came and landed on a nearby plant... shut off the mower and just stood and watched. he just sat there, so i started up the mower again, did another lap, and he was still there... he flew off briefly when i got close like i had been, but just landed on a different part of the same plant. wished i had my camera.

2- i started up my anti-depressants and anti-anxiety meds again yesterday. i'm sooo glad my health insurance finally got paid and i was able to get those, as i've discovered that they really do help me, and i've missed having them. i'm hoping to be on a bit more of an even keel now, not so emotional and stressed.

3- i should find out on Tuesday if i got the job... i'm a little afraid that i may have screwed something up in the interview, but i talked to Daddy about it, and He says i'm over-analyzing, so i'm letting it go, for the most part.

4- i should probably start a journal, instead of listing EVERYTHING in here.

5- i feel like i've forgotten something. craaaaaaaaaaaap.

6- i don't believe that saying that "if you can't remember what it was, it wasn't important". well, it may not be important to you, but it was important enough to me to want to say it. and i have proof of that not being true... mom has, in the past, pulled a pill out of a pill bottle, set it on the counter, went and put her pill bottle away, then forgot to take the pill, and she'll go off and do something else! i'll remind her if i see her doing this, (i've only seen this once, but keeping an eye out for it happening more often, and i stay on her, asking about her pills), but taking those pills are important, as they keep her ostomy output from being overwhelming, and then she has to change it more often because it gets fuller faster and she has to change it so much. so it's not life-threatening if she doesn't take it, but it's still important to her quality of life.

---------- Post added at 01:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:22 PM ----------

i don't usually read posts that are that ^^^^^^^^^^ long. i probably should start though... if it was important enough for someone to take the time to write it, i should show the respect and read it.

---------- Post added at 01:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:24 PM ----------

oh! i remembered what i forgot! i use the User CP to find the threads i'm interested in posting in, and then if i get bored, i use the new posts search. if that doesn't show promise, i'll go to the main area of the site as a last resort. i even have the bookmark to this site pointing to the User CP.
