The quarry is at the 5000-foot peak of Mt. Altissima, the same mountain from which many of Michelangelo's blocks of marble were extracted. The quarry sits at the peak of Mt. Altissima. I took the shot laying on my back at the base of a small sandstone cliff, which is evident at the top of the photo. As circumzenithal arcs are known for being the "upside-down" rainbow (which they aren't a rainbow, but a type of halo), I opted to leave the photo in this form rather than flipping it to look "normal." (I found this photo using wunderground.com's image gallery that they have there; quite interesting) |
