Seriously, Howard has his head so far up Bush's arse that if Bush farted Howard would be shot out like a champagne cork. Do you think he would be fired so far that he would miss the next election?

i dont think he'd go too far cos he'd be using his claws to dig into the sides of bushs' ass cheeks to stay as close to him as possble, lest our closest neighbour invades...

the way i see it,neither the liberals or the republicans will be in power after the next election. says a lot about the western worlds foreign policy over the last 4 years.

I wish I knew enough about programming to write one of those little java programs where you had to calibrate the lean on Bush and the pressure of the fart in order to accurately fire Howard into an "invalid vote" box. Released a couple of weeks before the election it might actually have a real impact.

Well that's the biggest oversimplification the internet has ever seen.

The US election will largely come down to who will represent either party. If it's Clinton or Obama for the Democrats (of which it will probably be neither) the GOP will get yet another term. If it's Gore things will be alot more interesting. If Guliani is the republican canidate anything could happen.

As for the aussie election it will be won or lost on the publics ignorance of the IR laws, not foreign policy. Labour and the unions have fed that much bullshit to anyone with ears about the IR laws the ALP actually has a chance. The simple fact is that if Labour get in, any changes they make to the IR laws will be strictly cosmetic and would be changes the Liberals would've made anyway.

I agree Johnny has had his time, but if the liberal power-mongers had a set they would've got rid of him a year ago.

Actually, it really doesn't matter who I vote for. I must be in one of Australia's safest liberal seats. In the recent State election our sitting Liberal member had the biggest swing away from the government in any seat (this in a seat where she already had a clear majority in the primary vote).

I agree with Meri - I think Howard's time is up - if Costello had any balls, he would've challenged for the leadership last year, but he is gutless. Rudd would really need to fuck up big time to not win this upcoming election.

Yep, I too think Howard's time is up. I don't know if labor will be a vast improvement, but I am truly sick of Howard. I guess more than anything I'd just like to see change.

Drug policy is something that's in need of some very serious reform in this country.

As for the US, I'm not so sure I can be bothered caring anymore, but man I hope it's someone with half a brain this time.

Actually, that might swing the next election for the ALP. If she can get herself up the stick at the right time, women all around Oz will fall over themselves to vote for the new 'Mum to be'. Maybe.

Does anyone realise that we don't actually vote for them, but for our local members? It takes a very large shift in public opinion for a sitting member to lose their seat, especially in those many safe Liberal seats. For mine this game is still well within the liberals lap, but labour is having a go of it the only way they know how... making promises they couldn't possibly ever fulfill.

Immigration: Doesn't matter who wins becuase three quarters of us actually have brains and don't want Australia to turn into France/Sweden.

IR: Liberal wins - IR laws get watered down, but stay. Thousands of jobs stay in Australia but minimum wage levels drop, fucking 50% of the workforce in the arse. Labour wins - IR laws get a major watering down, minimum wage stays put, trend continues with thousands of jobs being moved to PNG/Indo/India/China.

Iraq: Doesn't matter either as everyone who played in this game are well and truely fuct. Best we keep the US happy on this one and do what we're told. If elected Labour will not, repeat WILL NOT pull out of Iraq until the upcoming Democratic prez decides too.

Meridae'n, Immigration for me isn't about who we let in. I agree, we should scrutinise carefully who we do. But my biggest issue to the completely heartless and deplorable way refugees are treated when they get to this country. As far as I'm concerned there is absolutely no excuse for it. Yes, by all means, detain them, but they don't have to be treated like savages.

The IR laws I'm of too minds of. Howard has taken the laws to quite an extreme that is affecting me personally, but I also agree the if the laws swing too much the other way and unions get out of control it makes the country very uncompetative and our jobs end up going off shore.

The sale of Telstra is proving to be a right bugger up, that bloody company is even more freaking useless than it was before the sale.

I'm not a Labor or Liberal supporter, I think the bullshit the state Labor governments are getting away with is absolute bollocks. You'd think with Australia being one of the most heavily taxed countries on earth our politicians could buy a fucking clue.

The problem with the IR thing is that you only get one or the other. If you give the business sector an inch, which is all the Liberals intended with these laws, they'll take a mile. The same can be said if the unions get said inch. The AWA system can work, and I can say from experience at Visyboard Wodonga that it is a good tool if used properly. Fortunately Visy is a very progressive company and we were treated well and benefitted from the AWAs. I know there are very different stories out there but you must understand the bad ones you hear of are worst case scenario and come to light to appease someone's agenda. They were never going to be perfect straight away, and big business has shot themselves in the foot by abusing the IR laws from the start. Things will change.

I'm with you on State Governments, they are an archaic institution that should be dissolved immediately so funds can be better spent at the federal level. The bastards are only good for increasing speed cameras/pokies/luxury excises.
