Hardwood Flooring
Is there any hardwood flooring liquidator type places in Ontario? In the states they have this bigass chain called lumber liquidators where you can get hardwood floors at an awesome price. I just bought a new house and want to redo the floors first thing when I move in.

if you have a "King of floors" out your way........they have great deals.
did my last house and was more than impressed. |
Beware, Lumber liquidators in the states often sells cabin or tavern grade hardwood. Its bottom of the barrel, lots of imperfections, many short pieces a ft long, some blackened pieces, the result of moisture in the wood before finishing. In other words its not straight grain, nice clear 3 and 4ft pieces. You get what you pay for. Open the box and inspect the wood before you purchase, dont take their word for it.

good to know. I checked into shipping form them to here and it was extremely expensive so I'm not even going to consider them.

Others may do the same thing. They would often remove the tags from the end of the boxes, that read 'Tavern Grade' or 'Cabin Grade'. Solid wood is also more expensive than veneers. A veneer is just a nice clear straight grained strip glued onto a not so great piece. This is Ok, but if you ever decide to refinish it, you can sand down right into the bad wood.

I would strongly urge you to attend the National Home Show coming up in April at the CNE.
http://www.nationalhomeshow.com/ME2/...1E00279F3D0AC4 They have more hardwood distributors there than you can shake your stick at. You can talk to the pros, do comparison shopping all in one shot. Can you not refinish the existing hard wood flooring? I did my 1920 oak floors and they pretty much look like new old floors. Rent a sander from HD and go crazy. |
