My Ding a Ling

Get your freakin' minds out of the gutter... Seriously..

Today...

December 12th 2006 (that's 12/12/2006 or 12/12/2006 depending on where n the world you are

IS NATIONAL DING A LING DAY - a holiday celebrated worldwide (Why it's not International Ding A Ling Day is beyond me but I guess that's part of the charm of the holiday...

What the fuck are you talking about Mal?

But shouldn't it be INTERNATIONAL Ding-a-ling Day? I mean it is world..

What is National Ding a Ling Day
to promote the idea that a ding-a-ling is a wonderful, loving, intelligent, friendly, and the most desirable kind of person to know . . . a real bellringer!

It means that all the ding-a-kings in your country have their very own commemorative day.

They may exchange gifts and/or greeting cards, buy or bake cakes served with or without ice cream, put on silly party hats and play the national song, "My Ding-a-ling" by Chuck Berry (long may he rock!).

Party hardy!

There's even a club to join...

Ding-a-Ling Club, National, P.O. Box 248, Melrose Park, Ill. 60161

. . . Founded in 1971 "to promote the idea that a ding-a-ling is a wonderful, loving, intelligent, friendly, and the most desirable kind of person to know . . . a real bellringer!" Dues are $3 a year and new members receive a membership card, button, and bumper sticker. Publishes a monthly newsletter, Pealings, which promotes "less wiles, more smiles; less tears, more cheers; less shove, more love." Sponsors an annual National Ding-a-Ling Day on December 12. 600 members.

I will be humming it all day at work... unfortunately my staff is so young, they probably wont be able to "name that tune".

Chuck Berry rocks!

you knew this was coming...

my ding-a-ling
chuck berry

When I was a little bitty boy
my grandmother bought me a cute little toy
Silver bells hangin' on a string
she told me it was my ding a ling

My ding a ling, my ding a ling
I want to play with my ding a ling
My ding a ling, my ding a ling
I want to play with my ding a ling

And then mother took me to Grammer School
But I stopped all in the vestibule
Every time that bell would ring
catched me playin' with my ding a ling

Once I was climbing the garden wall
I slipped and had a terrible fall
I fell so hard I heard bells ring
but held on to my ding a ling

Once I was swimming cross Turtle creek
many snappers all around my feet
Shure was hard swimming cross that thing
with both hands holdin' my ding a ling

This here song it ain't so sad
the cutest little song you ever had
those of you who will not sing
You must be playin' with your own ding a ling
My ding a ling Your ding a ling, your ding a ling
We saw you playin' with your ding a ling
My ding a ling everybody sing
I want to play with my ding a ling

I was humming it all day at work also, even though they were playing Christmas tunes and then hip-hop! OMG, did I just capitalize Christmas and also G? Thanks for the knowledge of Ding-a-ling Day! I never heard of it, but while I was humming I was thinking about it, no doubt!

I got into big trouble when I was a kid. My friend had a 45 of Chuck Berry doing My Ding-a-ling and we would play it over and over. One day while we were playing it we marched around his room with magic markers clutched in our hands. We pretty much drew over everything (in time to the music though).

I was maybe four.

Big trouble.

That memory always comes back whenever I hear (or think about) that song.

As for the National Ding-a-ling day... Mal, you know you don't need a special day for me to love you. I love you every day.

Did the drycleaners wonder about the carry-on luggage, or did you rinse it out yourself?
