The newest word in the Oxford Dictionary is...
... Bling-bling.
Yes, the word that was once hip-hop jargon is now slang, and is in the oh-so-proper Oxford English Dictionary. The article... I wonder if we can use it in scrabble now? If this keeps up there will be some interesting words for 'marijuana' and 'woman' in the next edition of the Oxford Theasaurus...

Has anyone read The Professor and the Madman about the making of the OED? It's fascinating. They wait for at least five years before a new word qualifies. I guess bling-bling has been around since '99...
There's so many words in that sucka! And so many that haven't been used for ages. I have the "shorter" version. It has everything you could ever think of and more.

Hey Meridae'n...There is no way anyone could bust out bling-bling in a Scrabble game. Or is there? Is the hyphen included? Either way it wouldn't be worth scrapple, the plate values of B,L,I,N,G don't add up to much...maybe if you hooked up with a triple word score or something...I don't know?
Ebonics is accepted in schools as a legitimate form of dialect...so I guess it should be included... Who the hell is reading the dictionary besides me anyway??!!
