valid ID

hey! i'm making this thread to get info on the possible ID to get into bars and everything that requires ID.

last weekend, i went to a casino but they were super strict so my 1week expired drivers liscense wasnt good for them. and at every bar in town, they now require an un-expired drivers license. (i know i should get it back but right now, i'm not interested).

so i'm wondering what other ID i can get in canada. my friend has a gun license ID which is accepted and i was looking into the alcohol purchase card from the lcbo. (ontario's alcohol stores). the only problem is that it takes a few weeks, costs money and requires info from weird places so that option is probably out of the question for now.

how about the picture health cards? are those hard to get? are they valid?
any help would be greatly apreciated.

Health Cards are not valid ID for many things, especially not valid for alcohol and tobacco. Valid ID does consist of "Drivers License, Passport ( domestic or foreign ), Alcohol purchase ID, and I believe you can get a generic picture ID from the DMV.

Hope that helps.

DMV? Same as MOT? I don't think that the MOT will give generic IDs. You can also get an age of majority card ( http://www.lcbo.com/socialresponsibility/byidcard.shtml ) if in Ontario, or use a passport.

Get a passport.

Apparently they're also good for getting into other countries.

I am originally American so I still use alot of the terminology. DMV ( Departmen of Motor Vehicles ) is the same as Ontario's MTO ( Ministry of Transportation Ontario ). They have different jurisidictions as far as what they can/cannot do legally, but both places are responsible for who drives in their respective areas.

In BC and in the NWT (so I'm assuming elsewhere) You can get a general ID. Its really nothing more than a government issued card saying yup, I'm joe blow. Costs 10 bucks here, a bit more in BC, and I think its intended for people who just dont want a drivers license.

In Canada, to get a passport, you need the following:

1) Proof of Canadian citizenship (a birth certificate, certificate of Canadian citizenship, certificate of Naturalization, etc)

AND

2) Documents to support your identity, those being:

# Provincial driver's licence
# Provincial health care card
# Other provincial identification card
# Certificate of Indian Status
# Firearms Licence - Possession - Acquisition
# Old Age Security card
# Other federal identification card
# Federal, provincial or municipal employee identification card
# Canadian passport

What does a British Driver's License look like?
I think if it looks official then you would probably get served a drink in a bar assuming you don't look 10 years old - if they even ask you for ID.

Drivers licenses from the United States are valid ID at most bars in Vancouver, BC But I would recommend carrying your passport too.

passport or get another license. don't give your health card or s.i.n card for an ID check as they contain some confidential files.
