CFL Football Thread
Ok, it's two weeks too late for the new season, but better late than never.
My BC lions are now 1-1, I dunno what to expect this year... our receiving core is seriously banged up right now... we let one slip away against saskatchewan today. Where are the rest of the TFP CFL fans? BigBen I'm looking at you!

oh yes. Hard core ARGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOS fan here. good idea on this thread.
So far we've split with Winnipeg and Hamilton and are 1-1, but we'll be at BC place on Friday to make it 2-1 when we face your Lions...

You know i never really got into CFL, but I think this year I gonna give it a concerted effort. Its not so much lack of interest as it is lack of knowledge in the players.
Still, Canadian content needs Canadian support, I says.

We'll keep him!
Smoking weed isn't anything that people should shower scorn for. He's an intelligent, well spoken athlete and I'd be pleased to have him in the CFL. Multiple offender yeah, but who cares really? Does Ricky Williams smoking a joint somehow crumble society's moral fabric or make him less suited to play football? well... if his performance against winnipeg is any indication... hahahaha. If his season ends up being like that game, nobody in the NFL will even want him back!

Montreal - 2 and 0
Compared to what other guys in the NFL are caught (or get away with) offendingI would take Ricky Williams any day. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/colum...tm?POE=SPOISVA

I grew up in Hamilton, I have lived in Toronto for the last 12 years or more if you count my time in the wastelands of Mississauga.
I love living in Toronto and would never want to move back to Hamilton. That said, Argos SUCK, Oskee Wee wee all the way. You can take the boy out of the hammer, you can even get him to eat Sushi, , but you can't ever get him to cheer for the Argos. I still smirk when the Argos lose. Doesn't matter who they are playing. |

Or what about an atlantic team shared by the people who live in the atlantic provinces. it is only 10 home games. People would drive for that, no? It is not like Hockey or Baseball where you have to draw night after night. it is once every two weeks 9on average)

re: Ricky Williams:
I'm torn... the guy is suspended by the NFL... the CFL should honour that suspension. What's to stop them from allowing to play a player who decides he wants out of his contract in the CFL, refuses to attend training camp, and gets suspended? On the other hand, the exposure of the CFL to the American audience, and the increased ticket sales for all teams when he comes to town, is fantastic for the league.. That being said... GO RIDERS! Oh yeah... and then Stamps suck pondwater. Stagnant, scummy pondwater.... with mosquitoes.... and other nasty larvae... the kind that burrow into your skin and eat you from the inside out... |

How about that? Stamps sweeps the Als but the victory won't be as sweet as when we kick the eskie in the teeth at labour day

There are currently 9 teams in the CFL.
Ottawa is on the verge, yet again, of getting a franchise that would make 10. A CFL franchise, while costing a lot of money to run, is nowhere near the neighbourhood of any other professional team sport. In fact, if you look at the scaled down model that Montreal has made work (smaller cozy stadium) it may be possible for smaller cities or population areas to support teams. Remember you are talking about player salaries generally under (way under) 100k, there are only 10 home games person for which you have to fill the seats (as opposed to 40 for Hockey), and TV revenue should increase with a few more teams sue to more variety for fans and increase in appeal. What other Canadian cities (or areas) do you think could support a CFL team? I think that the following have potential - Maritimes - I don't know if any single city in the Maritimes could support a team but what if there was a Maritime Team. - London, London/Kitchener-Waterloo - I think that a team in London or Kitchener-Waterloo (i.e. souwthwest Ontario) could be supported. The population is definately there. There are tons of surrounding towns. - Quebec City What do you think?

There ain't no point to have a team for Ottawa, how many times did they fold in the past? I count 2 times in the last decade.
As for potential teams, I believe the league has been looking at setting one up for Halifax once they figure out their arena situation. Perhaps Victoria?

I'm a Montrealer (and fan as well) but I have a serious dislike for Don Matthews. If it was up to me, I'd trade him for a helmet with a busted face mask. It also seems that Jesse Palmer is going to be a good addition in the years ahead, assuming Mtl keeps him happy (our strip bars should do that for the Bachelor star) and the NFL doesn't come calling.

Hey Ace, no joke. Montreal's wheels seem to have suddenly come off. For years they've dominated the regular season, and then usually blow it in the Grey Cup/semi finals. Maybe this year it's the reverse (hopefully). How about Edmonton, though?? Can they get any worse before the whole team is traded?
