Toronto Pride 2006
So it's pride week, and I've yet to really celebrate. This will be my first parade, and I may or may not be marching. I'm really excited about the whole thing, but also kind of anxious. I don't know what to expect.
Any suggestions on what to wear/bring with me? Have you been before? What was it like? Will you be going? Can we meet up? |
I don't know if I will be going this year but will probably attend my neighbour's annual party.
The parade is a lot of fun. The crowds are thick. If you can, try to stand on the east side of Yonge St. They close down Church Street and it becomes a massive street party, with beer gardens, etc. If you are on the west side of Yonge it can be difficult to get across the street. While the party can get naked, it is never really obscene. I took my son a few years ago (he was about 10) and we had fun. It's really just a big party for everyone. |
I won't be going this year, but make sure you bring snacks and lots and lots of water. And don't forget the sunscreen for all those bits that don't usually see the sun. :)

Thanks guys!
It looks like I'll actually be marching, so I'm not too worried about huge crowds pushing me about too much. I'll have to post pictures later. |
It's weird that you guys claim a lot of nudity. Apparently, I was in the wrong spot. I went last year and was surprised by how tame it was! hmmmm.

So where's the pics?

I totally forgot it was this weekend. I had tickets to the Nine Inch Nails concert at the Ampitheatre and it wasn't until I bumped into a couple that lives on my floor and made a comment about heading to Toronto and they said that they were heading there too for the dyke march on Sat that I realized that it was Pride week. You'd think that seeing it throughout the papers all week would get it through my head... guess not...
Hope anyone who went had a good time. |
ya, i knew it was happening, but it slipped my mind too. Until I was running erands on Sunday. I was trying to buy a digital camera, and was looking for parking around Henry's (Church & Queen) and saw all the crowds.
It looked very festive. I'm glad that it's become a destination activity, now the city needs to try and grow Caribana into a similar level of excitement. |
