How NOT to steal a T-Mobile Sidekick

http://www.evanwashere.com/StolenSidekick/

Summary: Evan's friend lost her $400.00 Sidekick (phone that takes pictures i believe) in a Taxi up in New York. Some guy found it and gave it to his sister. Evan's a computer geek and did some web sleuthing to figure out who these people are. This happened a couple of days ago and he put up a webpage chronicelling (sp?) his adventures to get it returned.

I'm pretty sure it's not fake, but I really don't care. This is the most entertainment (aside from porn that is) that I've had in ages.

I'm dying to see how it ends! Which also brings me to a similarly related topic. How much information could someone find out about me?!

I don't think it's fake since I've been reading this since it started, and read the relevant local blogs that this has appeared in the past week.

Pretty damned funny...

But one has to remember in the days of past, people were able to track on dirt paths, they were highly skilled. Today we have electronic paths, and those same types of people are equally skilled.

That's simply amazing. Good luck to him, Personally, I'm surprised the theives are still holding out. Would have been so much less trouble to return the sidekick.

god this drama is addictive. if this is fake, the dude should really write a novel. i'd pay $2.00. i thought this would have played out by now. it's like a bad episode of CSI waiting to happen

You know they will eventually make a CSI episode out of it, lol. Except CSI would have Evan stalking the 16 yr old chick, the chick gets raped but not by evan, then evan gets killed, and Gordo is the suspect and CSI has to figure out that it was really the detective that filed the initial report that killed evan for getting him "burned" by the mass media backlash for "not properly" filing the crime.

i wait for the next update with baited breath... baited with crown royal that is, lol...

Alright... I'm hooked.

It's like a mystery novel. I figure the girl's mom hired the taxi driver to sell it to her daughter, who works with the guy's sister.

Or something like that.

Finally! a Conclusion!!!

Quote:
Update #51 June 20th, 10:05 p.m. Wow... I have no words to express how I feel right now. Vindication, appreciation, relief.... Just some of the words I can think of...

It's OVER. The police picked up Sasha on Thursday night. They also got the Sidekick back. My friend is picking it up tonight. For all the doubters that thought the story was made up, that I was doing this for money, that it was a viral ad, that I had the wrong people.... You are now proven wrong. All in all, you few naysayers don't matter. What matters is all the people that did support the very IDEA of this story...that morality IS important to you. That doing the wrong thing will NOT prevail over doing the right thing. And to show that, my friend is NOT going to press charges against this girl. We both feel that she has learned her lesson. We are not vengeful people. We just wanted what was right...and what was right was for someones property to be returned.

Here is the New York Times FULL page article (with pic) about the story: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/21/ny...1sidekick.html Three notes to the story... When the mother says that they gave me an address to come pick up the Sidekick, that was the address I posted above...which turned out to be a fake address... Also, she mentions that they bought it at the subways station for $50... Yet they told me (among other stories) they got it from a cabby...and were trying to sell it to me (supposedly) at $100. Sad that the stories are still being made up. Lastly, it wasn't thousands that came to this website...it was MILLIONS... On top of that, according to Google, there are now OVER 401,000 websites pointing to this one: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...=Google+Search

Hopefully, the forums will be back up in the morning. I would like to give it one more try. I will update you guys on that if it does go live again.

Haha, thats awesome, I didn't think he'd ever get that phone back. The sad part, is I doubt Sasha learned her lesson. She will probably just go through life cursing him out, as will her older brother. Pathetic really.

And that google search is priceless... Click on the 20th page and you still get results about what you were looking for. Haha, not to many searches will return that.

Lame. She should press charges. Sasha and that group gave them hell, I think letting justice be done is what should happen. It's gone this far, I think it's necessary to get the point home by pressing charges. Like krwlz said, I don't think she learned her lesson, and I doubt she ever will, which is why I think that a slap on the wrist for something that's been this big of a pain in the ass is the wrong answer.

Yep, and people will support her, as she tells the story people will say,"Oh man, that's fucked up! It's not like you stole it, it was left in a cab."

I wish I would have heard about this sooner, I would have loved to read it as it was going on. I read the whole thing though haha it really was like reading a mystery book. I really like the route he took, and what a great way to become famous haha. Kudos to him.
