Just out of the curiousity for those of you who thinks there will be another election in 18 or so months, what makes you say that? Despite the speeches by all of the party leader who pledge to make the minority government work without having to have another election in 2 years?

There average lifespan of any minority government has been 18 months.
I also think, in the case of this particular government, the numbers are not all that cut and dry. In order to stay in power the conservatives will have to work to keep, pretty much everyone happy. Harper is going to have to make many compromises. This is going to make many of his constituents unhappy. The opposition parties will play to this. In the end, it's a wait and see kind of thing. Time will tell if Harper has what it takes to steer this parliament.

Well, considering the experience of the previous minority government, the conservatives and the bloc formed a coalition to "fight" the liberals which the liberals in response, formed one with the NDP with the exception of ndp forcing a vote of no confidence in the end. So, what not going to stop the conservatives from forming a coalition with the blocs again and thus, forming a majority over the liberals and ndp?

The three opposition parties are centre left type parties. If the Conservatives try to push for more right wing type programs or budgets they may not get the support of the house.
The bloc will not form an alliance with anyone. Ducieppe said during the election he will support legislation if it benefits Quebec. Period. The bloc will support the Conservatives on an issue by issue basis. The same will be true of the Liberals and the NDP. As long as they are getting what they want in an agreement of support then they will support. The big folding point will be the budget. When Harper tries to recind the tax cut that the Liberal/NDP gave us last fall and replace it with a 1% cut in the GST, they are going to have to dangle some very large carrots to win the support of the house. No progressive should go for this. The tax cut, as it stand, is a good thing. Cutting the GST by 1% now and 2% next year is just a bad idea. I agree that certain items should be GST exempt (books, baby supplies, etc.) but the tax itself is a progressive tax. While everyone one is effected by it, only those who have greater spending power are effected greatly by it (i.e. the more you spend, the more you pay).

No need to ship the kids. You just need the paperwork.
Though, I suppose if you need to spend time with them, I could have them hitch hike out to Calgary.
