Favorite Online Cooking Sites
 

I didn't see a thread about this, so I figured I'd start one...

What are yall's favorite online cooking sites? It can be a recipe site, food blogs, magazine site, anything food and/or cooking related.

I'll start:

FoodieView: This place rocks. Recipe search engine, with a twist--enter the food you have on hand, and it will come back with recipes that use that food. Great for those times when you want something to cook but don't want to run to the grocery store, or when you want to clean out the fridge...
AllRecipes.com: Another good recipe site. Nothing crazy fancy here, but it's high traffic and the recipes have reviews from readers, so it's pretty easy to seperate the wheat from the chaff. And let's not forget, they also have an easy way to adjust the serving sizes AND the measurements (metric/imperial).
Epicurious: Recipe/Food site, this one with a bit more emphasis on gourmet cooking. I've found several very good recipes on here. Also has a reader review system, but not as much traffic, so not as many reviews. However, many of the reviews come from their magazines, so it's probably not something no one would want to eat.

Those are my big ones for now. Anyone else have something to add?

Bed and Breakfast Online -- they have a lot of neat bread/muffin recipes as well as other breakfasty/brunch type recipes (as well as main courses and appetizers and stuff). There are a lot of variations on similar recipes (probably 2 dozen banana bread recipes) but it's interesting to see how different places make it, and getting to see the inn's that serve these vittels is also quite a treat... I'm not thrilled with the layout of it-- but the recipes are worth the search.

Cook's Illustrated - It's a pay site for the most part but the magazine is excellent. It has reviews on not only recipes but also pots, pans and utensils. They also review the ingredients for the recipes such as cans of tomatoes or different types of flour.

The cooking show on PBS with Chris Kimball (I think he's the editor of the m agazine is also excellent)


The product reviews are interesting... All my cooking life I had heard that there was a huge difference between imitation vanilla and pure vanilla... according to their research in their tasting labs.. no difference. They're like the Consumer Reports of cooking.

Try egullet.org Lot's of great forums and reading.

I don't know about that. Imitation vanilla is disgusting compared to the real stuff. Maybe they tried crappy real stuff?

Food Network

I love it because it allows me to get all of the recipes from my favorite Food Network shows. Gotta love that.

I always liked food network for cooking sites. Also as already stated, egullet is another good one.

The others I freguent are Jamie Oliver and Starvin with Louis . Starvin with Louis is mostly useless as a cooking site, but it's fun.

sailor, tried to stump FoodieView with rice, bacon & sardines, but damned if it didn't come up with a receipe! It's amazing. Thanks all I look forward to checking out these sites.

The food network and epicurious are very good. I also like the Cooking Light website, but you need to register or something to get to the recipes.

I love allrecipes! great site!

i love epicurious for getting ideas, even if you don't totally follow the recipes.
i'm sorry, i can't help adding in a book, but Deborah Madison's books have amazing recipes, mostly vegetarian, all delicious!

I just stumbled across a very neat food blog, it's call "i was just really very hungry" www.justhungry.com
(I really am doing research/homework, but i somehow found this on a tangent : ) oh, distractions are fun...
anyway, it looks like it has some unique recipes, there is one for Ochazuke, or rice with tea.

Kraft Foods - they have a place where you can enter what ingredients you have, and they'll tell you what recipies they have that you can make with those ingredients. You can also log in and save the recipies, print them out in recipe card format, etc.
