Favourite whiskey
Whiskey? It's the Irish Green Spot for me. Nice & smooth & soft. Heaven.
But what is your favorite whiskey/whisky/bourbon/scotch?And why? When did you first discover/drink it? Why, for christ's sake, why? ;) |
Definately Jack Daniel's Single Barrell. Very smooth. I can't say that I'm really all that experienced, though... haven't got to try too much. And I'm partial to that local flavor. (The distilary is about 1 hour from me. :D )
|
my all time fave is Crown Royal, other than that its Jack Daniel's
|
Its expensive, but Woodford is the smoothest bourbon I've ever had. Kentucky all the way.
|
I would have to go with Maker's Mark; nice and smooth KY bourbon.
Elijah Craig isn't bad either. Now Jack Daniels is a little too harsh for me, even with all the Tennessee "Mountain Cough Medicine" my grandmother used to give me as a kid. |
Makers Mark is yummy, go for the gold wax seal if you can afford it, it's a couple bucks more but worth it!!!

I second Jack Daniels single barrel. With one piece of ice from spring water. Its one of those things that has the aura along with the good taste.
Yumm. |
I like the Glenlivet. Its pretty good for the price, and great on the rocks. Jack is good with coke.
|
Glen Morangie.

jd is my favorite as well, it gives such an angry buzz with such a good taste, i love it |
I enjoyed (a little too much) Canadian Club Classic last night. I've just recently started drinking straight liquor and paying attention to the taste. I'm gonna have to splurge on something premium the next time I can justify it.
|
Wild Turkey. Alot of people I know hate it but I love the taste. Makers Mark is smooth, I like to mix with it.
|
My favourite (single) scotch is probably Balvenie, but haven't had any in years as NC regulates what brands we get in our liquor stores. I drink alot of the Famous Grouse(blend) now. For Bourbon I prefer JD but I drink alot of makers mark...ones not better than the other really, just different, and the MM is much less expensive. Before I got Edumacated I worked for years in Fine dining...got exposed to lots of good stuff...acquired a taste for cigars too...
Anyone got any good bourbon/scotch and cigar pairings they'd like to share? Mad, Demon |

Maker's Mark is my bourbon of choice. JD is my whiskey preferance. And that's about all I drink besides PBR.
|
Bushmills
|
Glenfiddich, and for just when I'm out during weekends, William Lawson's is not bad, though I wouldn't exactly call that my favorite kind :)
|
Wow, there are so many great whiskies out there it's almost impossible to nail down a favorite.
Wild Turkey Rare Breed, Booker's and Woodford Reserve are 3 of my favorites in Burbon. Wild Turkey 101 and Maker's Mark usually will be in the cabinet, however. Bushmill's 16 year is a great Irish, but all Irish Whiskey tend to be a lot smoother and easier to drink than a Scoth or Burbon. I was on an Irish kick for a LONG time. Canadian is also usually pretty good & smooth, with Crown Royal Reserve getting high marks. I'm not a big fan of Scotch. |
good ol jack
|
The Glenlivet.
|
I'm personally all about Knockando. Good price and just so amazing - so smooth, so good. Of course, sometimes I want a really smoky one, and then I go for Laphroig.
|
Jack Black was good enough for Sinatra, so it's good enough for me. No mixers though. I think a shot of jack and a bud longneck are one of the great american combinations.
Crown Royal makes a great Manhattan, super smooth. Also love Crown and Ginger. Found a relatively cheap bourbon called Old Weller at the local liqourama, it's high proof (107) and seven years old. Might be worth looking into if you are into that kind of thing. I like bourbon at high proofs, like grandad and turkey. I try to stay away from Beam... for some reason it just makes me sloppy drunk. Best blended is Johnny Walker. Favorite single malt is Oban 14. This one bartender told me that all the little independent distilleries are pretty much out of business and certain distributors have bought up all their stock and rights to their lablels. Anyone else hear anything like that? If it's Irish, it has to be Jamesons. And as they say in the Emerald Isle, "There's nothing like whiskey to make a lad frisky." |

Definatly Jack and Coke for me Jack single barrel is the only way to go. My buddy is a Jack Daniels Squire
|
Gibingus, there was a piece in Cigar Aff. a few years back about the acquisition of the smaller distilleries, esp in europe. They made it seem as if the distillieries were still operating independently, but with the marketing resources of the parent company.
J_lonty..thanks for the reminder...I had forgotten all about Knockando (another thats not avail in my state )May have to make a run to VA and pick some up...(and win the lottery whilst in there). Looks like knockando and Montecristo (no2 torp) are going to be dessert after weekend of work is over! |
that's a mighty nice stogie there, maddemon. i've been into hondurans lately. surprisingly good for the price.
|
I prefer Segram's Seven and have to go with Jack second. I use to drink it with either 7up or Coke, but the carbination will make the hangover more painful.
So, I've got a taste going for either on the rocks or with water. |
Any particular hondurans? always looking for good bang for the buck...those 12.50 a pop cigars are starting to run out (bought before I was married, can no longer seem to justify their expense hehe). I don't think I've tried any hondurans, smoke alot of stuff from dom. rep. Been on a flor fina kick here lately (remidios makes them in DR i think).
In keeping w/ our whickey thing I have definately decided that cigars w/ light wrappers go well with the sweeter whiskeys and the maduros go better w/ the stuff thats a little harsher...beyond that i haven't broken my pairings down anymore...which Is why I'm always looking for suggestions! oh...and can anyone recommend a rye...been wanting to try some, but no nothing about them...seemd to have been out of fashion for a bit :) |
