Cook a real cheesesteak.
This one of the best recipes I know. It's easy and tastes delicious. Lots of calories though I'd imagine, so steer clear if you're watching the figure, or use chicken or something. This is infinitely better than what you find in forzen food aisles and will top pretty much anything outside of eastern PA.
What you need: -Steak. The best cut for the sandwich is sirloin, but whatever you get will do. Use as much as you want. -Amoroso's Italian Rolls. I can not stress enough how important this is. This is what makes the sandwich. Lots of places don't use these rolls, which leads to inferior sandwiches. Get these any way you can, or substitute another variety of good chewy italian bread, if you must. -Cheese. I prefer cheez whiz, as it mixes with the meat drippings to form a great little greasy cheese sauce. Also good are American or Provolone cheese. -extras such as fried onions (red or yellow), mushrooms, or pizza sauce. What to do: Freeze the steak partially. When it's pretty hard, cut it into thin strips. Fry the steak in butter. Also fry mushrooms or onions elsewhere. If you arent usingf cheez whiz, put the cheese in the roll, ready to take the meat. When the meat's good and browned (5 to 10 minutes), put it into the roll. If you're using cheez whiz, add that too. Add onions or mushrooms or pizza sauce or maybe even some peppers. I just made one of these and it's almost as good as what you's get at a fine local cheese steakery. |
