Asian Food
Hello all, We are having some friends over for dinner for an Asian Food night, (trying not to lock down to a specific cuisine) We have done Sushi night, sukiyaki, Korean BBQ, and egg roll nights in the past, and now was looking for suggestions for Asian food night that I might be missing
right now our menu includes: Sizzling Rice Soup Spring Roles Fried Rice Anybody have a particular favorite? |
Kung Pao chicken is always a winner. You can tone up or down the spice as you like.
If you are looking for some great recipes, check out Cuisines of Asia. It is a very detailed cookbook and a bit complex. It was recommended to me, and I have yet to make anything from that cookbook that wasn't really, really tasty. Good luck with the party! |
Kimchee (outstanding spicey Korean Cabbage)
Samosas (Indian Meat or Vegetable Dumpings -- super easy to make, too) Tandoori Chicken or Shrimp or Chicken Masala with a nice fragrant Jasmine rice. Chicken/Beef Terayaki (served on sticks) Shrimp Toast (also, super easy to make) |
Beef Rendang is a nice dish, virtually Beef Curry
Gado Gado - for the vegetables eaters out there, very nice indeed. (*i think my indonesian / asian background is coming out*) Laksa - if you want soup, but this may be a little harder to make etc. |
Definitely do Laksa - my favorite dish ever.
Laksa Broth: Coconut milk Chicken broth Red Curry (Penang Curry) Salt Pepper Garlic powder Sugar Start with coconut milk and thin it with chicken broth until like a med. thick soup, slow boil or simmer, add spoonfuls of red curry paste until it reaches desired hotness. Add other ingredients to taste. Should be sweet/spicy/salty all at the same time. Put Egg Noodles, Shrimp, Bean Sprouts, Celery, Onion, and whatever veggies suits you. Can also put chicken or beef chunks. Cook until flavor of broth is absorbed into all ingredients. Serve as a soup in a LARGE bowl and eat with both spoon and chopsticks. |

There are two things we like to do when the weather is cold like now.
1.) Combination hot pot: Prepare anything you like, leaf greens, bean sprouts, tofu, meats, mashrooms, etc. http://www.sinica.edu.tw/tit/dining/0196_HotPot.html Or shabu-shabu as the Japanese call it. Pork dumplings! *salivates* Dhal is good.
Lassi - nice cooling drink of yoghurt mixed with milk or water. you can make it savory with salt or sweet with sugar. Can add liquidised fruit, eg mango. |
You can always do a Pad Thai.
They're really yummy, not too spicy, but still flavorful, and have things like tofu, chicken, and veggies in them. They're also super-easy to modify. |
