So what are you bringing to the family Christmas?
I am making my favorite dessert, which I found a couple years ago in the Betty Croker cookbook. It is easy to make, and I get to experience the perverse joy of seeing it gobbled up before my aunt's apple pie is even touched.
Cherry-Berries on a Cloud (don't ask me why, but this recipe is filed under Microwave... no microwave is used.) |
I'll probably bring sweet potatoes. They are a family tradition and are WAY better than typical sweet potatoes with marshmallows.
I don't even have an exact recipe, but this is pretty much it: 8-10 sweet potatoes (the reddish/orange ones, not the yellow ones) butter brown sugar cinnamon one large can chunk pineapple, well drained Wash potatoes and bake in oven at 400 for an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes, depending on how big the potatoes are. I've found that long, thinner ones work better than fat ones. They should be soft all the way through. When cool, slice the skin off, and put the potato in a large bowl. Once all the potatoes have been skinned, mash. Add butter and brown sugar to taste. I usually add about a half cup of each and then add more if it needs it. Add pineapple, mix well. Sorry I don't have the exact recipe, but I've been doing it for so long I don't need it anymore and don't have it written down. |
I'm bringing my sexy self. :D
If I do bring something, it will most likely be cookies of either the chocolate chip or sugar cookie variety. |
a tray or so of cookies (recipes posted in the christmas cookie thread)
A chocolate mouse trifle... my own creation... It's layers of Dark Chocolate Mouse, Chocolate Wafer cookies, White chocolate mousse, and I'm thinking dark cherries, but I'm not sure yet-- depends on what inspires me... I'm not a fan of chocolate, and I won't eat this.. but it's a huge hit. Also will be bringing tiramisu, homemade Irish Cream Liquor, and some finger foods... |
That mousse sounds excellent mal, chocolate and cherries are one of the best flavor combos out there!!

Tiramisu is something else I had to look up to see what it is... and it looks awesome. I would definately make this if I already didn't buy the stuff for my cherry-berries. Pineapple with sweet potatoes sounds good, also. I'll have to remember that. |
The way I cook the nicest thing I can do is not bring anything Maybe a choc ripple cake. You cant really go wrong with choc biscuits and cream!!
|
I usually do all of the cooking, as I am the cook in the family--my mother is the baker. She bakes. I cook. It works well.
This year the menu is going to be based around a Honeybaked Ham if I have my way. Mmm, ham. |
I'm cooking for my family and I'm making a huge batch of lasagna. The hell with traditional foods. I've been wanting to make a hot artichoke dip lately (obsessed with aritchoke lately), so I'll probably make some of that as well.
