What is the best country concerning food

France is famed for its food. Many french people claim french food is the best.
Even though I'm French I prefer chinese food.

What exactly is USA food? BBQ?

What would be the description of the foods of other countries?

Northern Italian is completely different than Southern Italian cooking - and Sicilian (A different country I realize - but close enough) is also different.

In France there are also a lot of different way of cocking South/North or Mountain/Sea,each region has its specialities. This diversity is an asset. For me that's not a problem.
May be we can say that the American food is Fast Food or big steacks.

BBQ's are just as much Argentinian and Australian as they are American. this goes for steaks as well.

i realise that Sicilian food has different naunces to mainland Italian food, but Sicily IS part of Italy... its not a different country, its a region, just like Sardinia, Emilia-Romagna and Calabria.

as for this threads question and poll... i'm going to have to sit on the fence here since i can't possibly imagine how i could say that the cuisine of say China is BETTER than the cuisine of say Japan.
it all comes down to personal taste. my personal taste changes from day to day.

If the first, I would pick the US for diversity and flavor.

I love all food, no particular choice over another. But if I was to eat a certain food everyday, it would have to be Korean. 95% of the dishes are low in fat/cholesterol and the variet is there.

If I was to eat American food everyday, I would die of a heartattack in 10 years.

Erm, I'm hoping that was simply a typo. Sicily is no more a different country from Italy, than Alaska or Hawaii is a different country from the United States.

Way not enough choices here, but have to say eating in the land of Oz is pretty good. So much influence from everywhere else, and if I ever get the chance to eat at Mr Mephisto's, I am definitely in.

To me, Italian food, though it has its variations, emphasizes fresh, natural ingredients and flavors with a minimum of artifice -- the best that nature has to offer, well-prepared. In California, because we have a Mediterranean climate with a wide variety of fresh vegetables, what's called California cuisine or nouvelle cuisine partakes a lot of Italian cooking although with different ingredients. Anyway, I love it. I've never had the will to make it to Europe, or the cash now, frankly, but if I ever do I'll spend most of my time in Italy and eat my way from one end to the other.

There's a lot of good USA food, but it's mainly regional and ethnic food that has been spread widely; these are often foods that started in poorer segments of society and then became popularized. BBQ, corn bread, chili and fajitas and other Tex-Mex food, Northeastern chowder and seafood dishes, a whole lot of desserts like Apple Crisp that came out of the Northeast and particularly the Pennsylvania Dutch culture -- this is American food.

Even ethnic food here in America is, in a way, American food. Tex-Mex is not really Mexican, and the Chinese food you get in many restaurants is really American-Chinese, not so much like what's eaten back in the old country. Even American-style pizza isn't really what Europeans invented. What's American about cuisine in this country is how we mix and match influences from different ethnic cuisines into new things. Like, I know a Mexican chef who works in an Italian restaurant, and what he'd really like to do is open a restaurant that fuses the two cuisines. I could definitely see where that could work.

yeah, agree, depends on how you define best food, best specific ethnic food, or best restaurant, USA has amazing diversity, everywhere, so depending on your mood for food... This is not to say that the other countries listed also has that, but US has more...
If the question is specific best ethnic food, I vote other, since it depends on my mood

There's a lot to be said for it. When I was a kid, a German grandma lived next door. Crabby as hell, but her cooking was to die for, especially her strudel. Good thing I was friends with her grandson!

What is great about food in the US is the overwhelming variety. You can find the best of many worldwide cuisines. But there is also a great deal of blending of styles. Pacific Rim is the best example I can come up with. But we also have some original food of our own. You can not beat a great steak or hamburger. Real southern BBQ is ambrosia. Cajun can compete with any other regional cuisine as well.

U.S. food has to include a steak (on the BBQ) and baked potato (veg of choice) as well as any BBQ. I've never understood the big deal of French food - the portions are sized for newborns at the Trumpster's wallet.
Personally, I prefer U.S., Mexican(Spanish), and Italian.

I chose China because of the vast variety of dishes they have (-cats/dogs/snakes/whatever else). Im chinese, and Im more exposed to dishes that are unique, like different tofu dishes. Though, I do prefer Italian food. I love pasta and the different ways they make it.

I picked other simply because I can't name one country.

By heritage, I'm German and I have got to say that Schnitzel mit Späzle is really good.


But I have a tase for many other foods of the world:

Honestly there are some days where there's nothing like a good Indian curry.

Greek food is great stuff, espically Gyros and then Baklava for dessert.

Korean Bul-go-gi with Kimchi is really good.

Egyptian grape leaves are excellent.

Then there is a nice little Ukranian dish known as Chicken Kiev and to me there is no better way to eat chicken.

On your list, it's too hard to narrow down. I love, love all asian food, each country has a distinct flavor, but all are great. I also love mexican, and that's not on the list. I hate pasta, but that doesn't totally eliminate italian food,but a good protion. It's all in what you like I guess. I also love greek/lebanesse food. Oh, and BBQ done any way is a plus in my book.

I love chinese and japanese food, and mexican and italian are always good, but for sheer flavor, complexity, and genius of preparation I have to go with Thai food. Indian and vietnamese are both excellent as well. I've had french, and can cook some of it (no where near as much as I can make of all the others though), but have never been overly impressed. American food just sucks though, it's only one step up from british food, which is a few steps below boiled boot leather.

Why oh why did it take us this long to see Thai food mentioned! I love Thai food.

I voted USA. Fried catfish, baby back ribs, cornbread, buttermilk biscuits, bacon, anything cajun, chicken wings, coca-cola, cheeseburgers, fries, bbq pork, po boys, etc.

It has been said that Chinese food and French food are the two best foods in the world, but I disgress... Every kind of cuisine is excellent, as long as it's made by a talented chef with good quality ingredients. I like all kinds of food: French, Chinese, Italian, German, British, Mexican, American, Vietnamese, African, Maroccan (couscous! yum!), and so on... Having a bias towards one kind of cuisine would be ignoring - and missing out on - the varieties of intricate foods from all over the world.

To the gentleman who said that British food is below boiled boot leather: Although I find your statement very funny, I must disagree with it. British food is very good, if it is made properly. Personally, I love sheperd's pie made with a tomato & wine sauce, nicely cooked ground lamb and freshly-made mashed potatoes topped with some good mozzarella and parmesan that is broiled to perfection. Mmm!

I also love Christmas fruitcake, and I've made it several times. It's very, very good and for me, Christmas wouldn't be the same without it.

I'm glad that the US is on top. I don't get why deep frying is so looked down upon. It provides flavor. I like lots of flavor in my food, and I find that the US offers a diverse array of flavors that other countries neglect to explore. We also aren't afraid to make reasonably unflavorful things (i.e. hamburgers) into a whole eating experience (like with toppings). It seems to me that that's why we don't really have any exclusive delicassies. We were built on immigrants from all over, and that reflects our diverse tastes in food.

As far as regional delicassies go, I enjoy Britain's praun cocktail, squash (the drink, kicks Tang's ass), and truffles (although I didn't care too much for jellied eel). I also like Italian and Mexican food (although I have never had Italian food prepared by Italian people, there is a great Mexican place in town called Pericos that is actually owned and operated by Spanish-speaking Mexicans. It is awesome)
