Wine Advice

I have a date tomorrow and as we watch movies over chocolate fondue with strawberries, apples, cheesecake, and perhaps some various other fruits i would like to have some good wine to go with it, but I am very unfamiliar with the art of wine pairing so was hoping for some good avice from all you good tilted people here!

I recall that Reds go well with chocolate, but that is still kind of vague, I also have a nice bottle of Late harvest Riesling that I seem to remember hearing would be a good dessert wine.

Any help?

Riiiiight........

I personally love Riesling. Is it a Riesling from the Northwest? a German Riesling? Its wine that beginners can enjoy, because of its crispness and fruitiness (yes... some people look down on it... but Riesling really is the king of wines, especially for bringing out the terriore of where it is grown.. )

It might be overpowered by the chocolate though. Port or sherry might be fine, but if she's not really into port or sherry, she might not like it. Its a hit and miss kind of thing with port or sherry.

Shiraz/syrah is a pretty full-bodied/spicy type of red that goes well with chocolate. Talk to your friendly wine-store guy, and see what he recommends.

You might want to start with the Riesling, and some cheese, then go into

asti spumanti. Goes well with all the foods you mentioned. It's sweet, sparkling, and tastes pretty damn good.

The Riesling is a Kiona 2000 Yakima Valley Late Harvest White Riesling.

I also have Harvey's Bristol Cream Sherry, but as her favorite wines are reds, I wanted to get osmething along those lines, though I may also pick up the Spumanti just in case...

Thanks to all those who replied for the help!

Late harvest is going to mean that it is sweeter then your run of the mill reisling. I to would reccomend a port, and you are correct, red wine traditionally goes better with chocolates. As stated above, I would reccomend talking to your local 'wine guy' and seeing what he/she/they reccomend. Good luck!
