looking for some good food to bring camping!

Hi! I'm going camping quite a bit this summer, and just wanted to know if anyone had some specific food they really like to eat when they camp out. I have a coleman campstove, so heating isn't a problem. Thanks for your time!

I actually posted a recipe today that I've taken camping before and it worked really well, it's here: http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...&threadid=4201

Basically it gives you some meat in the form of pepperoni, pasta for raw calories, and it's nice to have a good hot meal at the end of the day. It's not the most compact or lightest thing you can take, but it's a hell of a lot tastier than MREs

camping where you hike in or drive in? if you will have access to a cooler I can make some other suggestions...

otherwise, it's anything you can whip up using cans.

I'm guessing your camping with a car if you're packing a coleman stove.
When backpacking I always break eggs into a clean container so you don't have to deal with fragile eggs, you just pour the amount of eggs you want.
Using pita bread or similar so you can avoid squishing a loaf of bread.
Cheese is compact and fills you up.
Potatoes are cheap...wrap them in tinfoil and cook them by the fire, they're good for hashbrowns in the morning too.
Fresh water is abundant where I live so I tend to pack alot of dry goods. I also fish, so I can usually provide a good part of dinner.

If you want to bring booze, buy overproof so you don't have to pack the extra weight.

You have to make Smores! It would not be camping without them. Plus, I like to make Hobo Pies, Which is just two slices of bread covered in butter, cooked in a pie maker. You can fill it with anything! Pizza sauce and pepperoni is good. Or you can fill it with cherry pie filling for a dessert. But it is all easy to pack and really good!

if you're hiking in, always take 1 MRE for each member of the party. That way everyone has matches, tabasco, etc for the rest of the meals. And contrary to popular belief, not all MRE's are as terrible as they're made out to be.

Some of the dried backpacker food is actually pretty good, but it's pricey.

Rice and beans are lightweight and easy to store. Bacon is thin and relatively light. This is good for the first morning of the trip. Put pancake mix in baggies and you've got a great breakfast. Don't forget the coffee!
