Your most hated food?

Kind of the flip side to marcopolo's "Food that makes you happy to be alive..." thread. What food or meal would you never again touch with a ten-foot fork?
Better if you've actually tried it before... Haggis is such an easy target, but who among us have even tasted the stuff?

So I'm going with oysters. Didn't taste great, and that texture... ugh. Never again.

Cynthetiq 04-29-2003 02:41 PM

lamb's testicles....

I'm not into liver at all....

snowy 04-29-2003 03:44 PM

Whipped topping--ala Cool Whip. I hate the stuff. It's so artificial and leaves a funny tasting coating on your tongue. I can't eat anything with Cool Whip in it...it turns my stomach. YUCK.

Met22 04-29-2003 03:57 PM

Just cannot eat organs! Liver and the like all taste nasty!

edmos1 04-29-2003 04:21 PM

how about lima beans, texture is no good

vermin 04-29-2003 05:31 PM

Raw tomato, cooked spinach, asparagus, lima beans.

The smell of spinach cooking is enough to trigger my gag reflex.

hotzot 04-29-2003 08:10 PM

brussle sprouts,..........ugh!

Macheath 04-30-2003 01:32 AM

Microwave reheated leftover lamb chops, with too much congealed fat and too much bone to cut around; with a side of limp, overcooked cauliflower and squelchy wet brussel sprouts.

Take a guess at what I had three nights ago.

GoldenOuroboros 04-30-2003 05:51 AM

lol MacHeath, it's good to see someone speaking from personal experience.

My last boss gave me some weird stuff to eat, urgh, his wife loved this it was like a meat loaf, but it was basically tounge, tail, tripe and some other form of ox/cow but it was suspended in some sort of spicy gelatinous stuff.. yeuk!

Lucifer 04-30-2003 07:24 AM

Sauerkraut!

txd 04-30-2003 08:38 AM

tomatos in and shape or form

I can't stand mushrooms or cooked spinach. Raw spinach in a salad or something of the sort is fine but not cooked.

sierra2774 04-30-2003 03:40 PM

Hamloaf! I have hated it since I was a kid.

My Mother said I would grow to like it, but 29 years later, I still can't stand it!

perripken 05-01-2003 03:57 AM

I remember literally gagging when my mother would try to make me eat liver..... Still can't eat it to this day!
Tripe! Yipe! Years ago I went out with an italian coworker who said I just had to try tripe. He took me to supposedly the best place in town. With my first bite I had flashbacks of my mother standing over me with the wooden spoon wielded screaming " Eat it, it's good for you!" I found that if I were only given the choice of liver or tripe if I was starving to death, that I would hope the food was much better in heaven!

You'd be surprised, actually. It really just tastes like a gigantic sausage.

For me, it would have to be beets...I don't know what it is about them, but beets are the nastiest vegetable I've ever had the displeasure of tasting.

gibber71 05-01-2003 10:47 AM

Tofu...nuf said

warrrreagl 05-01-2003 11:30 AM

Turnip greens and collard greens.

yabobo 05-01-2003 04:50 PM

dfcx cccx fdcx xcf Okara.....Liver.... = vomit............

Zotz 05-01-2003 06:09 PM

Of the food I've eaten and tasted, it would have to be either asparagus or cooked spinach.

Ratman 05-01-2003 06:28 PM

Natto- People either love it or hate it. I like a lot of fermented foods, like kim chee, saurkraut, and such, but soybeans? I shudder.

SexyCat 05-01-2003 07:43 PM

I dislike WAYYY too many foods to pick just one. I am a very picky eater and don't even eat lettuce which most people find to be weird.

spooney 05-01-2003 08:13 PM

I'm just starting to be able to eat lettuce...it has to be pretty fresh though.

TonySpilotro 05-02-2003 01:20 PM

How about that Braunschwager stuff they have in the deli case, I know Oscar Mayer makes some. The stuff is so foul smelling, I think it's basically seasoned, ground up liver.
Other than that, i pretty much am open to everything. Just started eating mushrooms a few months ago, never been a big fan of avocados unless in a spicy guacamole...

TonySpilotro 05-02-2003 01:21 PM

also, canned tuna, can't eat it. I love Ahi or Yellow Fin, raw or cooked, but can't eat the canned stuff anymore. Used to love it as a kid too...

I bet you say that to all the girls, heh heh.

splck 05-02-2003 05:55 PM

I'm not a picky eater at all, I'll eat almost anything. I agree with onesnowyowl that cool whip is disgusting, but further that with most artificial food products.
WTF is with people not liking food because of "texture"? Who the fuck cares what something feels like in their mouth? It's all about the flavor folks, if you don't like something because of the taste, I can understand, but texture...who the fuck cares?
Now bring me some veggies and natto.

Somenosuke 05-02-2003 09:51 PM

I don't like a -lot- of things. My big thing is salad, and condiments. Something about the taste of ketchup, mustard, and pretty much everything except BBQ sauce makes me feel sick. Lettuce does the same thing. No idea why.

ShadowWraith 05-03-2003 08:56 AM

for me eggplant is the worst. it has such a slimy texture and it just tastes so nasty.

Lebell 05-03-2003 09:14 AM

Of what I've tasted, Brussel Sprouts are by far the worst.

Of what I've not yet tasted, I can't imagine Haggis would be that good, but I would at least give it a shot. Now head cheese and blood cheese, mmmm, I might have to pass.

Some people freak over menudo, but fresh menudo is very very tasty.

greytone 05-03-2003 10:41 AM

Any of you ever had raw breadfruit? It is like eating cardboard.

Just about any organ meat is best left for the dogs.

matteo101 05-03-2003 11:56 AM

ground meats...i dunno why

kalashnikov 05-03-2003 09:54 PM

hot-dish...a Minnesotan tragedy.

kenshee 05-04-2003 04:26 AM

Raw tomatoes, string beans and liver.

tfbrown69 05-05-2003 08:51 AM

Head Cheese
Head cheese, also called souse and brawn, is a jellied loaf or sausage. Originally it was made entirely from the meaty parts of the head of a pig or calf, but now can include edible parts of the feet, tongue, and heart. The head is cleaned and simmered until the meat falls from the bones, and the liquid is a concentrated gelatinous broth. Strained, the meat is removed from the head, chopped, seasoned and returned to the broth and the whole placed in a mold and chilled until set, so it can be sliced...Mmmm

paddyjoe 05-05-2003 11:26 AM

liver and onions
kraft macaroni and cheese
brussel sprouts

TaLoN 05-06-2003 12:12 PM

i have to say i enjoy all of the foods mentioned above except for those testicles. I don't know why people don't like asapragus, it is my favorite food period. you guys need to try new recipes or something.

yangwar 05-06-2003 12:43 PM

Cooked spinach, ox tails, and radishes. Yuck.

Minx 05-06-2003 12:52 PM

Lima beans
Calamari (I think my past two experiences have been with poorly cooked versions as a lot of people love this)
Brussel sprouts....just can't stand them little buggers

rsl12 05-08-2003 01:17 PM

yangwar: oxtail is an incredibly nice cut of meat! if you had it shredded on a plate before you, i bet you would have no problem eating it up.

i eat almost everything, but i have *no* desire to eat dog ever again...

bundy 05-10-2003 10:20 PM

i have no intention of ever eating Mcdonalds or any other fast food crap ever again!

Pack 05-13-2003 04:44 AM

Almost all mushrooms.
don't know why but i really hate them..

John_Gault 05-13-2003 05:55 PM

I'll eat just about anything
Rocky mountain oysters, no problem.
Armadillo...it actually does taste like chicken.
I've even eaten live worms on a bet and they weren't to bad.

What I can't eat are beets, cranberry sauce, and fruit cake.
I gag at the smell of them and the last time someone tricked me into eating fruitcake I actually threw up on the spot and I was sober. I have no idea why I can't eat these things.

queedo 05-13-2003 06:55 PM

brussle sprouts
eggplant
Lima beans
brocolli
spam
meatloaf
squash

hotzot 05-13-2003 07:53 PM

I just want to say again how much I hate brussle sprouts!

The Cotb 05-13-2003 07:54 PM

Okra.

My father could never figure out why half of our okra plants would fail every year... I stomped on them when they started to come up. Only half of them, though... Eating okra was better than an asskicking from Sarge.

Memalvada 05-14-2003 11:23 AM

pretty much anything green

Mud Puppy 05-15-2003 11:00 AM

It's very interesting to hear about people's strange dislikes of certain foods.
Myself, I can eat anything, although I prefer to keep the canned and boxed, prepackaged food to a minimum.
I love to cook, and try new foods. However, I am married to a very picky eater so I usually prepare separate meals for my wife and myself. I used to try to get her to eat different foods but, it just wasn't worth the trouble.

There is one food I can think of that is the most disgusting thing I have ever eaten. I went to visit my mother once and she served me Tuna Helper. I ate it and thanked her for the meal because I would never be rude to my mom and tell her that it was gross and disgusting.
I just hope that she doesn't think that I really loved it and wants to feed it to me again the next time I see her.

philzilla 05-15-2003 01:57 PM

meat. not touched the stuff for about 13 years, and i never (knowingly) will for as long as i live

merkdr 05-16-2003 03:14 AM

3 things, peas period but especially hated when served with this cream sauce that had pieces of hardboiled eggs in it.my mom made it along with the 2 most dreaded of all concoctions , salmon patties ,they`re gross.the 3rd thing and most vile of all to my pallet ,blood pudding,`nuff said.

GSRIDER 05-16-2003 07:27 AM

Eggs, can't stand the smell, the look, anything. I tried em once when I was a kid and it tasted like tinfoil.

Also cottage cheese. I got stabbed in the leg once when I was a kid (long dumb story) and I looked down at my leg and inside is what appeared to be cottage cheese aka my chubby little leg fat... then the blood came pouring out.... haven't touched the stuff since.

-Ever- 05-16-2003 10:09 PM

The only food in the world that I dont like is wasabe and pickles. yuckkk im going to go throw up now from the thought  :D

rogue49 05-17-2003 03:35 PM

squash is my bane

corktop1 05-18-2003 06:34 PM

Cannot get into cottage cheese. Can't do it.

Jinger 05-18-2003 07:27 PM

Anything with aspartame (possibly not spelled correctly) in it, the junky stuff meant to replace sugar often found in "diet" foods.

I grabbed a yogurt off the cooler shelf at the shop next to my office, didn't look to carefully at the label. Two bites into it I was certain something was not right. Checked the expiry date, then noticed the "sweetened with aspar - yuk" note on the container.

I am sorry that this is apparently a common substitute for sugar for diabetics - so sorry, blek!

fuelmyfire 05-20-2003 05:21 PM

the hummus you make from powder, when warm.

BBLLAAAHHH!! i can't even stand to think of it.

SiN 05-21-2003 12:04 PM

aside from meat (iR vegetarian)

i dun like mushrooms. bleh.

*maybe* a morel or a shiitake. maybe. or not.

but no others. bleh.

oh, and celery. its the strings.

Hedgehog 05-24-2003 03:54 PM

Most of my food hates are textural things:

Mushrooms
Tomatoes (puree them, and I'm OK)
Squash (Fried, and I love it)
Bananas
Olives

Then there are a few taste things:

Most fishy fish
Liver (I gave it my best shot, but it's nasty)
Dill (pickles, bread, etc.)

hawkeye 05-25-2003 10:02 PM

I can't really eat any cooked vegetables. I like most of them raw, but when they are cooked they just seem nasty

Frowning Budah 05-26-2003 12:11 PM

I have eaten some nasty stuff like tongue (the beef kind), rattle snake, brains, snails even chocolate covered ants, but I just don't like Brussel Sprouts . I try them every now and then but just can't get so I like them.

Me neither, after reading your explanation!!

Draken 05-27-2003 04:38 PM

TUNA.... arg!!! hate the crap, i had some tuna cassrole when I was at a friends house then barfed. And any time I smell the crap I start gagging.......god no.....tuna...BLAH!!!!

Podmore 05-27-2003 08:17 PM

My list has been getting smaller over the years. I used to really hate mushrooms, but no sometimes they're not bad. I used to not really care for avacados, but now I actually like them. I still don't care for liver or beets though.

urgodhere 05-29-2003 03:41 PM

hmmm...bad food huh? Well I would have to say Orbit Pepermint Gum, Carmel, and Gummi Worms...all at the same time. Not too tasty. But chck this out for other bad candy's. http://www.bad-candy.com/old/bc3/

Concertina 05-30-2003 04:40 PM

I ditto all the organ type shit....yukky....

Fish head soup.....it. is. disgusting....

Mochi rice....I just can't fucking do it....

Oysters....why, god, why?!

I HAVE had haggis and I can say without a doubt that it is by far the most disgusting thing I've ever put in my mouth...and lots of stuff has gone there....;)

m

Double D 05-30-2003 07:41 PM

Chicken fried goat. Canned peas. Zuchinni.

cj22009 05-31-2003 04:02 AM

Mushrooms cant stand them they taste like dirt to me

muckluck 05-31-2003 06:46 AM

Uncanned spinach. I can eat canned spinach swimming in preservatives and all other kinds of chemicals but not fresh grown. Smae thing with cranberry sauce the canned gelled stuff id so much better.

redrum 05-31-2003 06:02 PM

onions, green peppers and red peppers.

the texture cooked, raw or whatever is just plain gross tasting.

Casus Belli 06-01-2003 04:10 AM

The only thing that really makes me throw up as soon it enters my mouth is Rhubarb, (or pieplant). Man, that is nasty stuff. Tried it serveral times, since i eat almost everything (not that i actually líke everything but okay...). But i just had to face it: it just comes out as a natural reaction or something like that...

Lassus 06-01-2003 04:04 PM

Grillied cheese sandwaichs also raw egg by itself

mystmarimatt 06-03-2003 12:51 AM

brussel sprouts, hands down. but once, i had a horrible experience with a microwave vegetarian lasagna from Costco, it was green, orange and white, and i puked it up for like an hour. that was like 10 years ago, and even today, if i see a color combination of orange, green and white, i get queasy.

mystmarimatt 06-03-2003 12:54 AM

brussel sprounts, hands down. but once, i had a horrible experience with a microwave vegetarian lagna from Costco, i puked it up for an hour afterwards. It was green, orange and white, and even today, like 10 years if i see that color combination, i get queasy

Cujo 06-09-2003 03:43 PM

I can't believe no one mentioned creamed veggies. Creamed corn or creamed peas are the most disgusting concoctions ever invented. I also have an aversion to tuna casserole with crumbled potato chips on top. Man! just thinking of that is making my stomach turn. Oh and one more. Those pre packaged pizza pockets. I don't know what the hell they use for dough in those things but the smell when they come out of the oven/microwave is just atrocious. YUCK!!!!!!!!

rockzilla 06-14-2003 06:06 PM

One of things I've always found odd about my own eating habits is that I hate tomatoes by themselves. I love tomato sauce, ketchup, even tomato slices in sandwiches/burgers, but I can't eat, say a piece of tomato in a greek salad.

Other Stuff:

Fish - And I worked at red lobster for 3 years (I like shellfish though)
Eggs - The smell turns my stomach
Olives
Mushrooms

Another odd thing is there are tons of foods I probably wouldn't eat unless I prepared them myself, but then again, I'm the best cook I know ;)

Glad-I-Ate-Her 06-18-2003 06:35 PM

liver - i couldn't stand it when my mother made it for my dad.

tofu, ox tail, brussel sprouts, any type of cold soup, organs or heart. just thinking of these makes me want to up chuck!!

i hate it when people say, "try it, it tastes just like chicken." if it tastes just like chicken then give me chicken and don't try to pass me anything else!

gagging glad

Dibbler 06-19-2003 06:34 AM

Anything with cooked fruit in it. Why would anyone ruin a perfectly good apple by cooking/baking it. Yeck!

Also, as with about 80% of us - Liver.

Tomatoes in any form except ketchup or sauce.

Quant 06-21-2003 11:23 AM

I agree with natto, liver, and canned tuna. All narsty.

betman 06-22-2003 01:09 PM

Mayonaise is nasty.
Lima beans are disgusting.
Balongna and cheap hot dogs are gross.
Livers and gizzards suck.
Vienna sausages and potted meat makes me puke.
Sardines and anchovies are not my friend.
Beets and turnips are bad.

boredjerk 06-23-2003 11:39 PM

processed meats like hot dogs and balogna

dragginaccord 06-25-2003 11:54 AM

mayo is nasty

niceguysfnshlst 06-25-2003 10:00 PM

green peas! in elementary school, they served peas every other day, and they were horrible. sometimes our teachers would bribe us into an extra 15 min recess for eating all of our food. ahhh they were excruciating! although, with 30 8 year olds yelling at you to eat them so they could go play. "eat your peas fatty, you know you want them!" it was a quite scary time.

an addendum, i'm neither fat, nor did they kids say that. it just sounds better.

Morbo 06-25-2003 11:18 PM

lima beans

Vyk 06-26-2003 03:23 PM

Sauerkraut, Mayo and most processed meats (bologna, hot dogs, etc). I used to not mind processed meats and then I worked in a meat department. ugh... I no longer eat pork for that reason as well.

Bobaphat 06-27-2003 02:34 PM

Mushrooms, any and all types. I can't even eat the happy kind...

bemick 06-27-2003 07:49 PM

I can't stand any kind of onions, yuck get them off my food

Launchpad 06-28-2003 02:33 AM

worst food ever, outside of tuna sashimi has to be my mom's "cracker salad."

basically you take a can or 2 of tomatos, half a jar of mayo and 2 packs of those square generic brand saltines then put them in a big bowl and mix it all up w/ your hands.

i still have nightmares.

Amethyst 07-03-2003 09:24 PM

The smell of spinach cooking is enough to trigger my gag reflex. [/B][/QUOTE]

I would have to agree. :)

GunslingerCold 07-04-2003 11:20 AM

The worst food is anchovie or black olives on pizza. I like pizza with any toppings but those.

i believe that would be Headcheese. How deceptive. Makes you think it's some sort of wonderful cheese... at the head of all the others.

giblfiz 07-05-2003 08:16 PM

kim chee is so damd nasty, I don't know how a whole damd nation eats it.

Jesus Malverde 07-07-2003 01:10 AM

I fucking hate cactus. I forgot what its called when you cook it, but it sucks. I took a bite of a taco that had some inside and I couldn't eat anymore. Horrible taste, even shittier smell while cooking.

Jesus Malverde 07-07-2003 10:08 AM

Oh yeah and I also hate papaya, the smell of that fruit makes me want to vomit.

grayman 07-07-2003 07:07 PM

Cooked beets. The taste, texture and smell are all horrible.

frankx 07-15-2003 09:04 AM

Brussel Sprouts
Bleu Cheese dressing (Just the smell and I literally vomit)
Collard or Turnip Greens
Yellow Squash
Liver (Thankfully I can't eat because of an arthritic reaction)

stinkynutz 07-15-2003 09:35 AM

fuck it, i'll eat anything that's edible

micah67 07-16-2003 01:38 PM

enchiladas. It's a childhood trauma type of thing. The smell makes me nauseous…

crackpot 09-18-2003 05:54 PM

Some hilarious posts gang, heh heh. *coughbumpcough*

Destructicon 09-27-2003 08:02 AM

Brussels Sprouts. I have absolutely no idea why any sane person could possibly be compelled to eat such a vile thing.

Dibbler 10-01-2003 07:12 AM

Anything with cooked fruit in it. Pies, cobblers, apple sauce, you name it. Also, liver, raw tomatoes, frozen peas and sweet potatos.
