OK...what is with the walnuts?
I have to agree with someone in another forum who said walnuts taste like eating wood (that and they can kill me). I only say that because the rest of the recipe looks so good. I love pears and ginger is one of my favorite flavors (right next to roasted garlic, though pears and roasted garlic might be a bit much). As usual thanks for the nifty recipe Jadzia. It will have to be a dessert I cook for you. |
I am thinking that the walnuts might be a texture issue. Cooked pears could tend to taste like baby food if overcooked. Having the walnuts insures a variation in texture, that is, if that is what they are in there for intentionally.. Thats just my take on it. Toasted walnuts do have a unique flavor, as do all nuts when toasted. But if you dislike them, or will die if you eat them, im sure that you could omit them.
And yea, I agree with pears and ginger being a great combination of flavors. I did a poached pear tart the other night with candied ginger as a garnish, it was awesome. |
