Depends on why I need comfort.
Emotional comfort: Ben & Jerry's chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. Upset stomach: ginger ale and saltines Cold: Cool ranch Doritos and warmed up Tang PMS: Peanut butter cups Just plain old good home cooking: pot roast that's been stewing in a crock pot all day with onions and carrots, with mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans.

Ooh, good question.
I'm often comforted by the process of cooking itself. When I need to think about something I'll make a recipe that takes the whole day. A good pot of chili. Fresh chicken soup with homemade noodles. Other times: Mom's braised soy sauce chicken. Roast beef with mashed potatos and crisp asparagus.

Depends on the comfort I'm seeking.
Lately I've been homesick and craving pulled pork barbeque.

Chocolate usually does it for me in almost any circumstance! Mashed potatoes do too. And so do cookies (chocolate chip, snickerdoodle, and hella uber cookies).
