Whats your comfort food?

Mine is mashed potatoes with corn and gravy.

lurkette 09-25-2003 10:24 AM

Depends on why I need comfort.

Emotional comfort: Ben & Jerry's chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream.

Upset stomach: ginger ale and saltines

Cold: Cool ranch Doritos and warmed up Tang

PMS: Peanut butter cups

Just plain old good home cooking: pot roast that's been stewing in a crock pot all day with onions and carrots, with mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans.

Ripsaw 09-25-2003 11:01 AM

Ooh, good question.

I'm often comforted by the process of cooking itself.
When I need to think about something I'll make a recipe that takes the whole day.

A good pot of chili.
Fresh chicken soup with homemade noodles.

Other times:
Mom's braised soy sauce chicken.
Roast beef with mashed potatos and crisp asparagus.

legolas 09-25-2003 11:04 AM

clam chowder with a grilled cheese sandwich...

Sledge 09-25-2003 11:23 AM

Sushi.

It makes me poor when I'm emotionally unstable.

yournamehere 09-25-2003 11:38 AM

Chocolate peanut clusters.

SabrinaFair 09-25-2003 06:25 PM

Depends on the comfort I'm seeking.

Lately I've been homesick and craving pulled pork barbeque.

Root_Beer_Man 09-25-2003 06:31 PM

I like this thread.

For me its prolly...Root beer and a donair

hansthemolemann 09-25-2003 07:16 PM

oh yeah!, I love donair's and pulled pork

Damnfinn 09-27-2003 07:20 AM

At Thanksgiving time my grandmothers applesauce cake. Then I'm 9 years old again.

Rodney 09-27-2003 10:38 PM

Probably #1 is chocolate -- the hard stuff, preferably Belgian. If it's strong enough, it'll actually give me a buzz.

Aside from that -- a nicely-cooked top sirloin, medium-rare to medium.

Jolt 09-29-2003 06:01 PM

Chocolate, but not -plain- chocolate. it has to have something IN it.

Eowyn_Vala 09-29-2003 08:44 PM

Chocolate usually does it for me in almost any circumstance! Mashed potatoes do too. And so do cookies (chocolate chip, snickerdoodle, and hella uber cookies).

bigjule 09-29-2003 09:55 PM

ok this is going to sound horrible to some, but my mom would make cheesy pork chops, pork chops with onion in an electric frying pan cover in cheddar cheese soup (condensed) and cooked for half a day, served with mashed potatoes

paj 10-08-2003 08:53 PM

bigjule i thought i made that up...

take a pork loin
enuf cheez-wiz to cover completely
add 4 table spoons of fave cheese - grated
salt and pepper

throw it in the over for a bit

i call it 'chork'
THE most un-kosher thing EVER.

(oh, serve with a glass of milk)

hansthemolemann 10-08-2003 11:09 PM

lol, chork, I love that name :)

blossom 10-09-2003 04:01 PM

Pizza - I guess I'm kind of a pizzaholic :)

lordjeebus 10-09-2003 06:53 PM

A really huge bowl of fresh guacamole.

Eaten with a soup spoon.

Rubyee 10-10-2003 06:43 PM

Panera Bread Brocolli Cheddar soup with a chicken ceaser salad and sourdough roll. Hey, when I feel the need for comfort, I don't want to cook.
