what do you cook on your george foreman grill

i just got one as a birthday present. its the one that can hold 4 burgers. but...i know theres other things i can cook up on this bad boy...somebody hook me up with some recipes!

duckduck 04-24-2003 08:53 PM

Everything. Pork chops, butt chops, steak, burgers, hot dogs, bacon, sliced potatoes, ground beef (this one's a bit difficult), ham slices, deer steak, turkey slices.............etc. If you want something fried, but not the grease level, Foreman it. It's so quick that it fits my hectic lifestyle perfectly.

spankthru 04-24-2003 10:56 PM

uh, almost everything. hotdogs are tough though, because they slide due to the fact that the forman grill is slanted for fat to drip into the trays

Cynthetiq 04-24-2003 11:27 PM

i've not been all that impressed with the "grill" on it.. meaning the grill marks...

but... you can make lots of things from lamb chops to minute steaks... seasonings from garlic salt to cajun spices.

davik 04-25-2003 01:55 AM

Did chicken alot on one when one of my roommates had it; come home from 8 hours of writing code, toss a chicken breast on the foreman, fix some of the instant-add-water-and-milk pasta alfredo, dump a few spices in it, then just dump the chicken into the mix for instant chicken alfredo, only took about 10 minutes to cook (just enough time to get a good start on a cold beer). From what I saw you can make just about anything though, saw my roommates occasionally make grilled cheese on it (though the cheese tends to run out one side and make a mess if you don't pay attention)

Steveye 04-25-2003 02:20 AM

I simply have to get one of these....

Mad_Gecko 04-26-2003 09:55 AM

Dust mainly...

Been sittin in a cupboard since I moved in. Got a Griddle pan instead and like that better for the charred effect. As for the less fat, healthy eating deal. Well all I can say is I'm happy 'cause I eat Lard.

I got 2... where should I send one to you? Mine is collecting dust too!

Calaphon Grill Pan is still my fave...cooks just as fast as a Foreman.

JoeyB 04-26-2003 03:06 PM

It may seem obvious to some, but don't use mental utensils with the George. You run the risk of scratching the surface.

As for recipes.....shrimp, sausage, burgers or chicken. Add a little spice and ENJOY!

n8242 04-27-2003 05:21 PM

One of my roommates makes "waffles" on my Forman. He seems to like them.

Daval 04-28-2003 09:51 AM

I've done kebabs, chops, bacon, asparagus. (although the asparagus kept wanting to roll off)

dimbulb 04-28-2003 08:29 PM

shrimp, pork chops, chicken, veggies...

I thought the thing looked silly when my roomie first got it, but it's my favorite appliance now... =)

TonySpilotro 04-29-2003 12:33 PM

For great crispy hash browns on the Foreman, buy the shredded Simply Potatoes brand in the green bag. They are the fresh ones, not frozen, and they cook up great. Arrange them on the griddle after spraying with Pam, close the lid and check them after 20 minutes or so. Sometimes takes longer depending on how crispy/dark you want them. Take off griddle and slather with mass amounts of ketchup and Tabasco. Can't beat it...

GM2 04-29-2003 05:23 PM

Mine collects dust as well. It just doesn't cook food worth a damn.

Ganguro 04-29-2003 07:03 PM

Grilled Onigiri
It's a great way to spruce up some older rice and make a little snack in the middle of the day, or on weekends.

Adog 04-30-2003 12:54 PM

I bought one about a year ago and havent used it at all. The bbq is much easier, although maybe Ill give it a try next time its raining outside. These are some great idea's, I especially like the hashbrown idea.....!

Foreman grill

Ok, I know that this has to have been done before, but...well, you know.

Does anyone have any good ideas/ recipes for a George Foreman grill?
I'm especially interested in fish and other meats- aside from hamburgers.

12-07-2003 08:29 PM

I personally don't use the foreman thing, however ive seen this done. Salmon seasoned with salt a black pepper grilled to med rare then topped with butter, fresh dill and a squeeze of lemon juice. or you can put some Cajun seasoning on any fish an try to blacken it.

redravin40 12-07-2003 10:19 PM

Here are a few ideas from before....

I have a foreman grill and love it. Can save alot of time. I use it for anything I could grill, including grilled chesse. :D

Liquor Dealer 12-08-2003 05:14 PM

It's great for lemon-pepper chicken breasts!

Amen! I used it almost exclusively for that. The only other thing I cooked on it was hamburgers. I have to admit that the thing really does work!

Dwarf020 12-08-2003 08:12 PM

I use my forman mostly just for steaks, it's about the perfect size for a good steak, and it is a lot easier then getting the real grill ready or cleaning up after using a skillet.

Chingal0 12-09-2003 12:21 AM

My parents tried to get me to use that grill deal and I just feel stupid using it. It works well, but I dont know what it is.. just seems weird. I guess I am used to the bbq, but whatever!

thingstodo 12-17-2003 04:18 PM

I cook nearly anything on mine. I like to marinate meats or use different rubs. Even made some of Emeril's rubs from FoodTV.com.

I did recently switch to a panini grill. The one I have has a drip feature like the Foreman. It has variable temps for different foods. The big benefit is that it has a floating top, like all panini grills do. That means you can cook something up to 3" thick evenly. The Foreman came up short there.

Cynthetiq 12-17-2003 08:29 PM

i think that a panini also heats hotter too

thingstodo 12-18-2003 04:07 PM

You are right about that. I think mine is about 300 watts hotter than my old small Foreman. You can sear the outside and then cut it back a little if you want to with the variable temp. Also, the grids are closer together.... but I'm not sure what that does. It was a little more expensive than the Foreman of a similar size.

They have done studies where this is not the case. If you are using the grill for health reasons, then sorry but it doesnt effect the fat content one bit. =P

thingstodo 12-21-2003 11:38 AM

Actually, if you think about it, it would have to impact the fat content.
If you cook a burger in a pan, it just sits in its own fat. On the Foreman or panini grills, the fat drains off. That's how the fat content is reduced. All you have to do is cook the same thing in a pan and on the Foreman and measure the fat left over. That's the measurable difference.

I would be interested in knowing whom the "they" is that conducted the fat tests.

forseti-6 12-21-2003 08:58 PM

Oh I love this nifty little gadget. I cook everything on it.

Fish, chicken, steak, pork...

I tried cooking shrimp on it once, and my stomach didn't like it, so I don't think I will be trying that again.

Some other things I have cooked on the foreman:
toast
grilled cheese
grilled vegetables (be careful you don't overcook them!)

I like cooking grilled cheese on it the best, because it cooks faster than a toaster, and you get those wacky gridlines on it!

Tdoggg 12-21-2003 09:08 PM

Have do pretty much everything but mostly burgers and steaks...

Jadey 12-26-2003 01:38 AM

Grilled cheese. I put sliced turkey or bacon in the sandwich too.

I pack tortillas with whatever and roll them up and put them on for about 30 seconds for a quick meal.

Also, I do the basic turkey or chicken breasts.

That's about it though. I love it. It's kind of hard to clean though sometimes.

Astrocloud 12-26-2003 02:32 PM

It's perfect for grilled cheese sandwiches.

jay-g 01-25-2004 01:58 AM

I like making hamburgers the most on the grill. Mmmmmm, hamburgers

diddagirl 01-25-2004 12:57 PM

Chicken...it gives it the best smoked taste. Yum yum

absorbentishe 01-26-2004 07:38 AM

I cook just about everything but steak on it. I found that steak is too dry when cooked. I cook chicken (almost daily), tuna, salmon, pork chops, hamburgs, hot dogs, sausage, brats, etc. There is nothing I haven't tried as of yet. When I season, I use Emmeril's original on chicken, and it turns out great.

Unga 01-27-2004 01:24 AM

anything that drips grease :P

quest1mark 01-27-2004 08:15 AM

i recently made a grilled cuban sandwhich on my gf grill...you guys should try that one. dee-licious!

MPower 01-27-2004 01:31 PM

We usually grill sliced red and yellow peppers with a little goat cheese and zucchini.

Also great for cooking up a lot of bacon at once.

twilightfoix 02-08-2004 07:49 PM

easy way to make a good grilled cheese sandwhich that you'll ever find
