Ramen Noodles!

:D :D :D
Hey its cheap, and its everyones favorite instant noodle. Anyone have any good Ramen recipes, add any ingredients etc? I've pretty much stuck with the regular noodles + flavor pack, but adding mushrooms to chicken flavored Ramen is pretty good!

Please share your Ramen experiences :)

Adog 07-25-2003 09:13 PM

I have put egg in ramen before... tastes pretty good. Also I have chopped up left over steak or chicken and added it. I have always wondered how they can sell ramen for like 6 cents a pack... seems like it would more than that to make.....

Slims 07-25-2003 09:32 PM

Cook up a couple packs of noodles without the flavor packs, drain, and pur spaghetti sauce over them

or: Prepare ramen, drain, add flavor packet (to taste). Then put the noodles between two slices of bread to make a noodle sandwich.

Add ramen noodles to any soup to make it go farther.

Serve Chili over ramen noodles.

Etc.

I have made way to many improvised ramen noodle meals.

cajun chicken and roasted chicken and hot chilli , any combo of the 3 is yummy.

That cheap? It sold for more than that 25 years ago, when I was in college. You don't think ..... Soyalent Green?

I cook the shit by putting 2 packs in teh pot, adding enough water until the noodles are barely covered, then cooking it on high until it starts to overboil. Drain excess water, dump the shit in a big bowl, then add the spice packs. Or, just crush the noodles up in the pack, open it, add the spice, shake, and eat.

MadMartigan 07-26-2003 07:01 PM

Ramen is the shizit

mydragonfido 07-27-2003 03:31 AM

Wow never knew anyone besides my husband actually ate the stuff!!!

tinfoil 07-27-2003 06:45 AM

It's a staple. mydragonfido.

TSFM 07-27-2003 12:35 PM

Ramen is the stuff man. I probably eat 2-3 Ramen meals a week.

Try mixing two packs up. The different seasonings can be interesting. My personal favourite is mixing a Picante Chicken with a Shrimp. Then you've got a cajun shrimp sort of thing. Oriental and Beef is good too. Mix an match, it's a lot of fun.

jabackes 07-28-2003 03:59 PM

along with the chili version up there, i like to sometimes use the nigishi brand ramen and mix some Salsa on top of it... it sounds bad, but tastes ooh so good....
i once found 200 recipies for ramen online... dont know what happened to it.. maybe i'll do a google for it...

marcus 07-29-2003 01:57 AM

I like to take a packet of picante chicken and add; cubed x-firm tofu, bean sprouts, thin sliced green onion, water chesnuts, cubed portabella and baby corn(cut in half inch sections). People won't look at ramen noodles the same.

Pennington 07-29-2003 10:31 AM

Ramen has got to be the best vegan food ever invented. When I make em, I add soy sauce while it boils and then add bread crubs to add some more texture. Great stuff.

Katyblu 07-29-2003 02:59 PM

I actually just like boiling water and adding the seasoning packet and eating it as a soup. Especially with the picante seasoning....

bobw 07-29-2003 08:41 PM

just crack an egg and drop in when boiling...

SpoilSport 07-30-2003 03:42 AM

this prolly sounds WAY nasty.... At the asian market, you can get this bag of frozen mixed seafood. It has squid, shrimp, mussels and clams - I add them to Korean spicy seafood ramen. It is SO good, there's loads of it, and both are dirt cheap.

I am one of those boil then just so long and then drain them types - I can't stand it when they are boiled to death, all slimy and lifeless. And I've never seen anyone else crumble them in the package, add the sauce mix, and eat them dry - I thought I was the only one!!!

Jonnymax 07-30-2003 03:51 AM

Egg in the ramen is always good

I also like to add foreman grilled chicken and cook the noodles halfway before stir frying them in my wok.

good for when yyou have leftover chinese but no rice to go with it as well.

truenative 07-30-2003 08:34 AM

Royal Ramen

A handful of fresh spinach tossed in with the boiling water has gotten me through many a jobless month

CaptainFluffer 07-30-2003 08:47 AM

mm mmmm mmmmmmm

I kill myself with this stuff: 1 cup a day!! (unless I'm poor -_- )

Spicey Egg and Seaweed Ramen Recipe:

Crack an egg two minutes into cooking your noodles and stir (much like how you would make hot and sour soup).

Add a packet of dehydrated seaweed (the spicy kind pre-packaged from Asian markets). Stir every so often.

(Some people might want to throw in the seaweed before the egg, since the egg cooks faster, but it works all the same.)

Bon appetite!

koli70 07-31-2003 06:45 PM

:) Some of my friends live off ramen noodles, very fatty, but oh so good. I usually drain the water and add a lil cheese.

ponczy 08-01-2003 04:03 AM

my son has eaten this practically every day for lunch since he was about 7 months old (he's almost 2) Boil it up with or without spices, drain and add butter and a dash of salt, then sprinkle with parmesan cheese when cool(otherwise cheese gets all melty and gooey) Bon appetit

tardka 08-02-2003 06:26 PM

When I'm not lazy I will add peas to the regular mix, goes real well together.

dimbulb 08-02-2003 08:29 PM

Korean Spicy Ramen.

I swear by this brand called Nong Shim. Incredible stuff. I have it with eggs, shrimp, squid, and assorted vegetables.

This stuff is really bad for health though..heh... full of sodium and MSG. baaad.... and fattening too.. but who cares..

Explosive 08-02-2003 08:32 PM

I lived off that stuff for a week when my parents went on a trip, I was all alone.

striderkevin 08-03-2003 01:09 AM

Instant Ramen is the best invention ever, and don't you ever doubt it.

fartre 08-04-2003 05:54 PM

I add Lea & Perrins Worchestershire sauce to the water until dark brown and then add my Sapporo Ichiban beef soup to it. mmmmmmmmmmmmm...ichiban.....

cetacean 08-04-2003 07:29 PM

I lived on chiken flavored ramen with broccoli for about five years. Still like it too.

kalashnikov 08-07-2003 01:00 AM

Ramen is the true college staple. My friends loved me because I strifry the cooked noodles with eggs, chicken (if available), onions/green onions, the flavor packets or my own spice combinations, and a sauce of soy/sesame/chili oil/mirin. And GARLIC! I mean, come on, you gotta have plenty of fresh garlic.

giblfiz 08-07-2003 04:49 PM

If your on the go, you can eat it without cooking it (its already cooked in the package as it comes) and if you spread some peanut butter on it its pretty damd good. for some reason it creeps people out though.

robot_parade 08-07-2003 07:58 PM

I gotta hand it to the Master (Alton Brown), and his broccoli casserole recipe:

http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/reci..._21191,00.html

It's awesome, but I leave out one of the eggs, and put a little less bleu cheese.

God of Thunder 08-08-2003 10:26 AM

Hell, I just cook it up, add a little butter and some parmesan cheese.

Nothing like it.

baudot 08-08-2003 01:49 PM

I can't stand the MSG-laden flavor packs that come with ramen, but love the noodles. I'm all for cooking them in a canned broth from the local health food store.

That my friend is the only way to prepare the noodle. and oh yeah, while you are boiling the noodles add broccoli and spinach, then when it is done and you have mixed up the spice packets throw on a healthy dallop of cottage cheese. yummy

wow, that was a lot of ramen recipes.

my wife makes broccoli slaw with an asian dressing that is just not the same without oriental flavor ramen crushed up (raw) & the packet dumped in.

em1014 08-21-2003 10:58 PM

Now I love ramen but eating two packs of oriental ramen with hot sauce and drinking mad dog late at night = a very bad morning!

telekinetic2 08-22-2003 07:20 AM

So share your ramen experiences, eh?

We went on a backpacking trip that was going to be a five day trip...10 miles from the trailhead on day two, one of our campers got violently ill, and our camp site was infested by weird little bugs, and we decided to end the trip early. We decided there was no point in carrying back the food we'd brought for the last three days, so we sorted out what we needed for the trip home and put the rest of the food in a pile.

It just so happened that there were like six ramen packages in the pile...well, you just don't let that stuff go to waste. So we cracked them open (between the three of us we ate all six of them that night) and ate them like a biscuit...we just sprinkled all of the flavor packet on the noodle hunk and ate it. Still have good flavor memories from it, very salty, I've done it at home when I've been lazy a few times.

We ate so much junk that night...a can of cobbler mix, we started seeing who could eat the most gatorade powder without swigging water....man was I young and stupid....

seizei 08-23-2003 12:06 AM

damn you all! I'm consumed by the insatiable need to cook up some ramen! luckily I buy it by the box.....

seizei 08-23-2003 12:25 AM

ok made my ramen! yummy!

I have seafood flavour .. I don't use the oil packet included, just the seasoning. I added an egg for the last 30 seconds, some shoyu (japanese soy sauce), green onion, and sprinkled some nori (seaweed) and sesame rice flavouring into it. very nice!
