An embarrassment to myself and those around me...

I ran out of money on my meal plan freshman year in college...had to eat ramen for like the last few weeks of school because my bank account was also almost empty. Now I'm out of the dorms and buy all my own food, there's still a case of the stuff sitting in our kitchen.

Oh, and Raw ramen is fantastic. I learned it from a floormate when I was a freshman, still do it. Open bag, remove flavor packet, crush up nodles being careful not to spill, pour in flavor (not all of it usually, avoiding the salt...), shake and enjoy!

I work with a family of Koreans at a sushi resteraunt, and the things they do with ramen are fucking spectacular. I'll work them for the recipe....
In the meantime, my personal favorite is Chicken ramen, a little bit of frozen spinach, and a slice of american cheese, all boiled together. It makes a delicious cheesey broth and requires no extra work.

I survived on ramen for a few months with my roomates when I was 18. When I wanted meat I would cut up a hot dog and put it in with the ramen.

Taco salad Ramen. Brown some ground beef. Add seasoning pack to meat and simmer. Boil noodles and once done layer the plate with them. Add the ground beef then grated cheese and add lettuce, tomatoes, salsa and sour cream.

I keep a half dozen packs in my hutch at work. I like the ginger flavored and the black pepper flavored (marketed as Oriental and beef respectively.) One thing that I found works really well with the pepper flavored is to thow a green tea bag in the water before the noodles, heat it up, andd and cook the noodles, chuck the tea bag, and add the seasoning. It almost tastes like something that might have seen a cow at some point then.

Gotta second the egg part. Other good additions: chopped scallions, cubed tofu, dried mushrooms (throw 'em in while the water boils), a tablespoon of miso paste. If you like dried shrimp, then by all means throw some in (personally, I think they taste like tetra-min.)

I'm cooking ramen for lunch right now. Egg in the water when its boiling before the noodles. Noodles, shredded carrots, portobella mushrooms, and some crushed red chilies. Chili paste, soy sauce, and oriental flavour spice pouch when its done. mmmmmmmmm.............

Did no one else catch this?

At $.08-$.15 a pack less if you buy them in the big boxes at thos big warehouses, how could you not afford to eat one a day?

I like to add tabasco or hot picante sauce to mine before you cook them up. Lots of it. Then fix a sandwich and eat them together...... Now that's the shit there!!!

Simply add some shredded cheese, as they do in Korea. Another option is to use it as a cheap version of hamburger helper - helps when you're on a budget.

I have just been sticking the brick in a bowl in the microwave covered in water without the flavor pack (that much salt is evil) and mix in some chili powder. Nuke drain the extra water cover in parmasean cheese maybe some cooked diced chicken or ham and enjoy a nice lazy almost free meal.
Oh yeah and Bump =P dont want anyone to miss the ramen thread just cause its old

I was on a camping trip once and got so hungry while hiking that I ate them without boiling them. Actually they were pretty good.
