Mixed Drinks

i've tried to do a search for this, but couldn't get much, so sorry if this has already been posted. i'm kinda new here.

does anyone have any favorite alcoholic beverage recipes? i'm trying to learn how to make good drinks for parties and such. my current knowledge is rather limited - i only drink rum and coke, vodka with OJ or simply drink jack or wild turkey without anything else.

i need some veriety.

Pellaz 07-16-2003 03:43 PM

I can't give any recipies off the top of my head, but if you google it, you'll find some truely amazing sites out there. Personal favorites are flaming dr peppers and tequillia sunrises. both are fun to make, and look nice. Also, buy at least 1 jigger and have an attractive mixer, ie not a plactic cup. People will be much happier with their drinks if you use the right tools, and those two are a good start.

mizouse 07-16-2003 06:43 PM

Metropolitan: Cranberry juice, Absolut Kurrant (or any berry flavored vodka), Rose's lime juice, fresh lime juice. I'm not sure about measurements. I've tried to figure it out and I swear that I have it by the third or fourth one, so I attempt to write it down but it always turns gibberish.

Sparhawk 07-17-2003 07:38 AM

vodka is a great combo with just about any fruit juice.

Try taking your screwdriver and adding equal parts cranberry juice and orange juice.

Now you have a very tasty Madras. :-)

Fabulous drink and I really want to try it frozen.

yankeefatboy 07-27-2003 07:02 PM

My wife and our neighbor enjoy my sangria that I make. Here's the recipe:
Rossi jug Sangria OJ triple sec peach schnapps
measurements are to taste. Make sure to add slices of oranges. grapefruit, lemons and limes for garnish/taste

CanuckAlert 07-27-2003 11:52 PM

mmmm my favorite.

In a Pint Glass:

Ice
2 oz. Bacardi Black
1 oz. Vodka
Pour in Coke till 1" from top
Cream.

Damn good stuff.

Katyblu 07-29-2003 03:43 PM

Oatmeal Raisin Cookie:

Kahlua
Buttershots
Jagermeister
goldschlager
Baileys
Cream

Its good as a shot but as a drink it can put you on your ass quickly... tastes just like a oatmeal raisin cookie and just as addicting!

human 07-29-2003 08:50 PM

That oatmeal cookie drink is damned odd looking, what quantities do you use? I want to try it, but damn... Goldschalger and Jagermeister, in the same drink? And Baileys? Crazy!

As for tasty drinks, Ceaser :
Rim a glass with celery salt
1-2 oz Vodka
Fill glass with Clamato Juice
Add worstershire sauce and tabasco to taste.

Drop in a celery stick, and you're good to go!

bobw 07-29-2003 09:01 PM

get a long island ice tea recipe and start experimenting... by the time you think you have it close to correct, you will not be able to stand up to try another attempt.....

obediah 08-03-2003 12:38 PM

Bloody Mary:

Some vodka (stoli's pepper vodka if you can find it)

some tomato juice

some tobasco

some pepper

some worchestershire (sp) sauce

celery, scored so the flavor bleeds in to the drink

The amounts depend on your tastses, vodka and tomato juice should be more prevalent than the others. I usually go a bit lite on the juice, and am liberal with the tobasco and worch...

Gentle Ben:

1 oz vodka
1 oz tequila
1 oz gin

top to tase with o.j. You can get by with much less o.j. than you'd expect. You also don't need to make many of there.

Jaeger and Goldslchlager is called 'liquid cocaine' not really my cup of tea but it's all the rage with the kids in Toronto these days...and my sister has just brought it to the DC area.

Any way, my favorite is an old fashioned.

Put the following in the bottom of an old fashioned glass (a short pint glass)

Orange slice
Marichino Cherry's
Lime Slices
1 teaspoon bar sugar (it dissolves in cold water)
Dash of Bitters.
Muddle the above in the bottom of the glass (muddling is smashing and crushing the fruit with the sugar and bitters).

Fill with ice and add your favorite whisky...I prefer VO but sour-mash, bourbon, or other ryes will do. It's all up to you.

It is common to cut the whisky with an ounce or two of club soda...entirely up to you. I like to use ginger ale.

enjoy,

-bear

stinkynutz 08-06-2003 01:09 PM

My friend and soon to be roommate invented the Master Blaster: One part Jones Soda (traditionally blue colored) to one part vodka.

h2g2Fan 08-07-2003 01:18 AM

Martini

Fill up a shaker with ice...

Add:

5 parts Gin
1 part Dry Vermouth

Shake well and pour into a martini glass with two large green olives.

Slims 08-07-2003 11:52 AM

Here is my standard party recipie for sex on the beach.

3/4 cup orange juice (good orange juice like tropicana)
3/4 cup ocean spray cranberry juice
3-4.5 oz vodka
.8 oz peach schnapps

put in martini mixer with ice, shake, serve.

Another good one:
Make a standard white russian: .8 oz kahlua, 1.5 oz vodka, and milk to taste.
then add Godiva chocolate liquer or hersheys chocolate syrup to make it taste like a chilled mocha latte.

Slims 08-07-2003 11:54 AM

Oh oh, I have another good one. It's not very original, but it is always fun to give someone else:

the cement mixer:
1 shot lime juice and one shot Baileys irish cream in separate glasses.

Have the 'victim' put both shots in his/her mouth and swish it around once or twice before swallowing.

seizei 08-07-2003 12:52 PM

here's a really sweet martini recipe:

1/2 oz vodka
1 oz bailey's
1 oz malibu rum
1 oz expresso or coffee
2 oz milk

shake it all up with ice and strain into martini glass.... tastes SWEET!!!

another one with ice cream:

3 oz orange juice
3 oz milk
1.5 oz triple sec
2 scoops vanilla ice cream

-put in blender until smooth .. tastes just like a creamsicle

themilk 08-09-2003 04:29 AM

Asshole Lover 09-06-2003 02:40 PM

yeah...tgi is pretty good. long island iced teas are great for getting girls drunk

Stare At The Sun 09-06-2003 02:54 PM

Great drinks i found out last night

1 can of limeade concentrate
vodka to taste
add ice to top of blender, blend.

Its amazing, the sourness of the lime takes of the vodka, and it is a great drink, honestly, works well with most any canned concetrate!!! try it, you'll love it i promise!

This thread needs another trip to the top of the list. I'll share my firend Padraic's invention.

The Afterburner:

half Aftershock Red
half Bacardi 151

It's like drinking fire.

Webtender is truly a wonderful site.

davik 04-14-2004 01:34 AM

First, a good reference site: http://www.drinksmixer.com/

Second, a couple of drinks:
Vodkist: this is something my friends and I created and decided we liked more than screwdrivers; basically use sunkist instead of orange juice for the screw driver, gives it a different flavor, but if you're making strong drinks (or drinks for girls who don't like alcohol-tasting drinks) it generally masks the flavor of the vodka a little more.
Martini: I saw someone else had posted a recipe for a martini, but there are dozens of variants; I go for a drier martini, 10 to 1 gin to dry vermouth, shaken with ice and an olive in a mixer then strained, toothpick the olive and add to the drink. For the love of god use good gin too (bombay sapphire is mine) :P Other variants involve the vodka martini, sweet martini (sweet vermouth instead of dry), twisted (twist of lemon or lime), dirty (dash of olive juice from the jar), and many others.

qtpye4u84 04-14-2004 01:52 AM

I like coconut Rum with pineapple juice.
I like any thing to where I don't taste the alcohol that much.

No surrender 04-14-2004 01:33 PM

I've got one. Try Vanilla Vodka and soda. Sounds kind of strange, but it is really good.

An excellent choice! I like to ix it 1 part Beam, 2 parts Ginger. Tasty with a slice of lime.

Cuba Libre: 3 oz Rum, Ice, Fill with Cola, Squeeze of Lime

Perfect Manhatten:

6 parts Whiskey or Bourbon (I like Markers Mark for this)
1 part sweet vermouth
1 part oz dry vermouth
Shake with ice and pour into (a) martini glass(es)
twist a strip of lemon or orange (or both) peel over the (each) glass unitl a drop of citrus oil falls in, then toss in the twists and a marschino cherry.

My wife used to really like Spiced Rum and Cream soda until she painted a church's shrubbery with it.

Three Wise men: Layer in a shot glass in order: Wild Turkey 101, Rumplemintz, barcardi 151

04-19-2004 04:01 PM

I posted about my drink in another thread a while back:

Power Pucker
In highball glass:
1 shot vodka
1 shot sour apple pucker
1 shot Triple Sec
Splash of Sweet & Sour
Splash of Cranberry Juice

YUMMY!

cherriesue 04-19-2004 06:04 PM

If you want something that's sweet you can try this:
(I've heard it called a Melonball or a Pearl Harbor)
Vodka
Midori
Pineapple juice

Also, what a friend of mine has dubbed a Runt (like the candy):

Vodka
Gin
99 Bananas
Peach Schnapps
Watermelon Pucker
Light Rum
Apple Pucker
Splash of sprite
Shaken and strained into a tumbler

it's really good...tastes sweet and it will kick your ass

I love Vodka Tonics. Mix vodka and tonic to taste, add a slice of lime, consume.

Something else that's pretty good is to mix vodka with fruity sodas like grape or orange. Giant sells these bottles of really intense fruit soda (I think it's called "Crush" or something); they come in six packs. They taste really good with alcohol.
