Which beer for a non beer drinker?
 

I don't drink a lot of beer and while I can tell that some beers are better than others I haven't had a beer yet that grabs me and says "remember me dammit!"

So I was reading the best beer thread and did some more research and I want to try a poll.

Which beer should I try and will I like if I'm not a regular beer drinker?

If your favorite is not on the poll then just reply below. I live in Southern California, but there's some great stores around here where i can get almost any regional beer.

Some people would want you to try different kinds of beers, stouts, pilsners, lagers, ales, etc. But you probably don't know which type to try.

So I'd recommend finding beer that is around your region. For example, Sierra Nevada makes some great beers (their pale ale is an award winner - called Sierra Nevada Pale Ale). Go to the nice store near you and ask about regional beers or do some research on the net.

This way, I think, you'll find that you are getting to try the different kinds of beer and you'll be able to relate to where they come from.

try Corona Light or Extra with a piece of lime in it.

erm... don't think anything normal is going to work...
 

I hate beer but i have come to like some lagers. They usually have more alcohol than horse piss (domestic "pilsners") and have a mellow taste. and usually more expensive. You pay for what you get in this area. The best beer that i have had of all time is a Belgian beer called Duval. FANTASTIC tasting. Especially had in Belgium. This beer is hard to find, but any red or dark belgian beer will usually be similar in taste/quality.
Kavak (sp) is also a nice lighter beer from belgium. Any white beers are to be bought in large quantities for enjoyment with a lemon slice. Really, guys. This is GREAT stuff.

becks aint bad, try heineken

i've had corona, heineken, and becks already. i'll try the others as soon as i can and let you know when i find one. thanks! i guess i'll stick to vodka until then.

Hey man you should try and get some Negra Modelo, that beer is really good, IMO the best Mexico has to offer. It has 5.3% alcohol too, so it will get you feeling good.

I've found non-beer drinkers have usually mostly been exposed to lagers and dislike them, and think they dislike all beer as a result.

I've had conversions with dark beers, like porters and stouts, including Double Chocolate Stout, Mac's Black, Montheith's Black Beer and the like.

Lord, I was going to recommend it. I brought a six-pack of NM to a beer-tasting party once, where people give one-to-five ratings on each beer and then all the individual ratings for each beer are tallied. Negro Modelo won easily. (Plus, it comes in bottles that look like they were specifically designed for use in bar fights; grip one by the neck, you'll see what I mean.)

So that's my top recommendation, but if you want to try another beer that's got a little different taste than most beers, check out Tsingtao. Back when I really didn't like beer much, it was the one beer I did like. You might like it, too.
