Recipe of the Day - July 9 (spicy lasagna)
Spicy Night Lasagna
Ingredients Meat Sauce 4 Tbs. cooking oil 1 lb. ground lean beef 3 cloves garlic 1 lb. spicy Italian sausage (crumbled) 8 oz. tomato sauce 1 can tomatoes 1 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. pepper 1 tsp. oregano Noodle Layer 1/2 - 1 lb lasagna noodles 4 qt. water 2 tsp. salt 1 Tbs. oil Cottage Cheese Layer 2 - 8oz. tubs cottage cheese 2 large eggs Cheese Layer 6oz. pkg Shredded Mozzarella Cheese Parmesan Layer 4oz. tub Parmesan Cheese Preparation Brown beef and sausage together (till well done) in a pan with garlic and oil. Mix together tomato sauce, tomatoes, salt, pepper and oregano. Add meat mixture to tomato mixture and simmer 1 hour or until thick. Cook noodle layer and drain, and keep separate. Mix cottage cheese layer ingredients and keep separate. Layer (5 layers repeated twice with half of the ingredients in each layer). 1. Noodles 2. Cheese 3. Cottage Cheese mixture 4. Meat sauce 5. Parmesan Repeat Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes. Serves 12 |

sounds great. i may have to try this, but I adjust things with sauces and cheeses. Ricotta is a great "upgrade" for the cottage cheese, and some marsala wine applied liberally with garlic salt to balance makes KILLER tomato sauce in my experience.

makes a rich sauce.
