Food Run

I'm known for going on food runs. It's not a recent phenomenon it's something I've done since I was a youth, driving as far as San Francisco to LA and back for some burritos.

If I've got the time and the hankering for something, I'm going on a food run. It's the food, the destination, the adventure, the carefree of it.

We've done Pat's King of Steaks in Philly for some cheesesteaks wit, Chicago pizza tour, and a Tennessee BBQ tour.

The other night the phone rang, "Want to go get Maryland crabs tomorrow?"

"I can't, have to work."

"Ok, how about you leave work early on Friday?"

So tonight, it's Maryland crabs. It's late in the season, the crabs should be nice and fat.

what's your latest food run?

Where in Maryland? Not that I'll go near seafood, but it'd be mildly amusing if I showed up in a lobster costume.

The farthest I've ever gone is 20 miles or so for Krispy Kreme.

Funny, I got back to the man cave last night to find a tray of crabs fresh out of the bay waiting for me.

About an hour to St. Augustine for several restaurants.
One being an awesome place with 40 beers and 15 wines on tap.
I'll drive an hour for Young's Double Chocolate Stout on draft.
Does a beer run count?
I drove to Georgia for Sweetwater Blue, too.

Luckily for me, I live in a town with a ton of great food. I imagine if someone were to actually try and break it down, we have more ethnic restaurants--more restaurants in general--per capita than any other town of our size, especially in Oregon.

But I have been known to drive an hour to the Coast for a bowl of Mo's chowder. Mo's, family-style, with a plate of fresh bread, please.

I guess you could consider parts of our trip to Chicago a food run--we went to both Uno's and Giordano's, and ate at Superdawg. Having a vegetarian SO kind of limited the hot dog options. Someday I know I will have to go back and eat more Giordano's and Superdawg.
